Marsh Seat Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good marsh seat for walk-in hunting? Alot of the younger hunters I know purchase items from Dive Bomb Industries and they have one that gets good reviews however I've experienced too many shady businesses practices from this company to do business with them again. The areas that I hunt in MN are cattail swamps. Last year was dry and I got by with a folding lawn chair but this year we have had a wet summer. Any recommendations? RM
 
For ease in carrying I use an Avery style marsh seat but I removed original seat and made one that's 12" x 12" instead of their narrow seat. Also padded it thickly and recovered in Cordura nylon. My frame is aluminum though compared to Avery's powder coated steel. Its the type with a push pole type foot on stake as places I use it are swampy. No back rest but I can usually back up to a tree. In folded position comes in handy as a walking stick if needed sometimes. It adjusts for height.

Roy, I've noticed alot of marsh seats are constructed of steel. That has always struck me as odd. Making your own using a push pole foot is a great suggestion. Thanks, RM
 
I bought an avian x one last year and really enjoyed it. Kind of holds mud worse than other because of the pieces that come out, but the not sinking part is really nice. Back in the day, I hunted with a guy who made his own out of large tube PVC. It was the best seats I had ever hunted in and they didnt sink. Only thing that sucked was sometimes after a long hunt, they were kind of a bear to get back out of the mud, but they were so comfortable. Not the best for walk ins though. My recs are for avian x chair, I like mine a lot. Before that i was using the avery marsh stool and it just constantly sank or ended up crooked and annoying.

Depends on location. Last year I made due with a folding lawn chair when water level was down. Plus lawn chairs sink quite a bit. This summer we've had quite a bit of rain but I haven't bushwacked a trail through the cattails to find out how deep the water is where I hunted previously. Many places in MN are walk in only and it can be a long way to drag a boat. RM
 
I use the mo-marsh layout backrest and the Guide Gear fold up chairs for different situations.. works very well. I'd say my favorite is the backrest tucks up in the boat with ease and lightweight. IslandOutdoorsMediaTM-18.jpg

I have an older Alps Outdoorz wetland seat, it is an aluminum shaft and folding feet. I don't use it much but it does the trick when needed. They also have several other models with wider seats and backrest that might interest you.

That deluxe model looks pretty comfy. It is really hard to stay seated for long periods sans back rest. I'll be going to Scheels in Fargo perhaps as early as this weekend. RM

All the suggestions offered are great. I've tried many of them. My favorite is a regular old folding directors style chair with a side table, providing the surrounding grass is high enough. Color doesn't matter, cover it with a decoy bag or something else brown and sit in comfort. As lightweight as anything for carry in.

RM, I have this seat and I would not recommend it. I took the bait because of the backrest, and don't get me wrong it's nice when you get in that perfect position, but I wouldn't buy another one.

It only has 2-3 adjustments for depth. The whole thing once assembled is like 4 feet long and quite cumbersome. Since it's adjustment is virtually non existent you can never get it at the right height and you have to constantly move around to find the right spot. If you actually lean back into the back rest you are going to get your arse wet and go for a swim. It doesn't have enough base stability to handle leaning back.

I'm still looking for a marsh seat I like, but I keep going back to the cheap ones with lots of adjustability.
