The first part of building the cockpit was to layout the lines for where the ribs will be cut. Most sneakboxes I have seen use a rectangular opening. I prefer to mirror the curvature of the side planking. The plans call for 11 1/2" off of the edge. There is a 1/2" cockpit liner that is attached to the ribs after they are cut.
The first step is to install the side shelves and supports. The plans call for 1/2" thick material. The material was prepared and I scribed the edges and started fitting the shelf in place. The shelf needs to be notched to fit around the side ribs. There are also 2 deck braces fitted at stations 4 and 6 to support the top ribs and the shelf.
Once fitting is complete I will cut the top ribs.
