    Waterfowl Tolling

With air temps in the 100 degree range most days here in N. Central Idaho, I have been taking my Chesapeake on a daily retrieving session in the nearby Clearwater River. The past morning as I threw the dummy for Bella, I noticed a large flock of Canada geese that had been swimming a good 150...

    Autumn wings heads?

I used them on some Herter SucDuc decoys that my artistic wife repainted for me. I did not use a drill press, but just held and drilled the holes "Hillbilly". I didn't put any additional coating on them either. They turned out quite nice and have held up well, too.

    Steel shot for upland hunting

I've used steel shot for some time and I like a large size steel for wild roosters...#3 or even #2. I adhere to the old go up two shot sizes in steel to get the like performance of lead and since the steel pellets are very round; the pellet count of say #4 steel and #6 lead are nearly the same...

    Thinking of moving, but where?

I fell in love with Montana as a freshman at the University of Montana in 1971. I duck hunted at the then Ravalli NWR. However, that world no longer exists. I've duck hunted since along The Front and enjoyed the actual Montana residents versus the recent immigrants several times. The negatives...

Dani and other workers (edit w/ new photo)

I like the idea. I had a now deceased friend that I attempted to turn into a real waterfowler. In spite of my numerous attempts to educate him on various waterfowl species, his usual upon an in coming flight of ducks was..."Can I shoot it?...Can I shoot it?'

    Four best out of 17...

Thanks for the explanation and update, RL; for me, a former Midwester...Very informative and interesting.[;)] Again nice fish; sadly, Puget Sound in WA no longer even compares to the salmon and steelhead fishing available in the Great Lakes.[frown]

    Four best out of 17...

Well done...Although I have to ask, not that many years ago, the Michigan Fishing License had a "NO NOT EAT MORE THAN ONE MEAL OF SALMON OR TROUT IN YOUR LIFETIME OUT OF LAKE MICHIGAN" warning???

    Cabela's Demise

A local radio station in Spokane, Wa. has a daily morning feature in which they present three separate, weird stories from around the world and ask different callers to identify which one happened in the Great State Of Florida. Dani, I fully expect "Florida Man" diving into the BP fish tank to...

    Attn Brad Bortner

They are considered an invasive specie in the state of Washington, as well. Even in my small, agriculturally based community, they are in relative abundance in town, but rarely seen out of it. I understand they present a better gunning possibility in Central WA; with them showing up with morning...

    Shotgun of Choice?

Being old fashioned, I still use walnut stocked O/U's, SXS's or classic pumps for my shotgun adventures. I'm the Old & Cranky Guy wearing the waxed cotton Filson or McAllister coat with a Chesapeake. For waterfowl, a Browning Citori Satin Hunter 12 Ga. 3 1/2 version, however I seldom shoot the...

Question regarding the new guys on our forum: is it the virus?

A friend was the reason for my checking out the site to begin with. I became a near instant lurker because of the wide variety of topics allowed for discussion, far more than just duck boats. Also, Eric's "real names only, please" was so refreshing from other forums and the "secret squirrel"...

Who Remembers their first duck or goose

Well Anthony and all, here's my "first goose story". Although I did shoot that first duck (and BTW my first pheasant at age 9) in Central Iowa with that single shot youth model Sears 20 Ga.; my first goose came much later. I was a senior in H.S.;17 at the time. My lovable, but irresponsible...

Who Remembers their first duck or goose

I was 9 years old shooting a Sears Youth Model 20 Ga. in a shallow draft, sculling type duck boat on Big Wall Lake North of Blairsburg, Iowa. My Father had push poled us into the cattails out on this shallow lake to pass shoot ducks. After several misses, I was able to drop a mallard hen with a...

    Another New Guy

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome. Yes, I'm liking this site a lot already. Al, I'll try to post something on one of my "less than seriously hardcore" expeditions into the Great Outdoors this Fall. Being an old, out of shape, loner with a bad back, the bag is seldom a limit...

    Another New Guy

Hello fellow waterfowl hunters. I've been a lurker for some time after being turned on to the site by a friend. As to me, I live in a small town in the the North Palouse Region of Washington next to the Idaho Border. Previously, I lived in the Puget Sound area and hunted waterfowl on Skagit Bay...
