    Pecan wood for keels?

Seal well. Hickories have a reputation for absorbing moisture but should be beautiful keels.

How was everyone dealing with this virus scare?

The other issue is availability of tests- the testing will be concentrated around urban areas with large hospitals. The surrounding rural areas get a false sense of safety because they don?t any positives like Nashville or Memphis. What they don?t know is nobody has been tested. I?d be much more...

How was everyone dealing with this virus scare?

Eric, I think they divide by N simply because if you divide d/d+s you will overestimate d% because s is underreported. To count as an S you would have to be hospitalized and discharged or return to the doctor for a clean bill of health after becoming an N. And I agree, there?s definitely a...

How was everyone dealing with this virus scare?

Vince, for now at least, our state wildlife agency is encouraging fishing. My son and I brought home a nice stringer of 1-1.5# bass last week to supplement the freezer. 6 year olds generally do not believe in the virtues of catch and release and neither do I when the landowner encourages keeping...

How was everyone dealing with this virus scare?

We?ve had bigger concerns- 2 weeks ago an EF4 tornado ripped through my town at 2 am, killing 19 so far with several still in the hospital. We knew several of those that died and many more that lost everything. 147 homes were destroyed and 700+ buildings were damaged. The vortex missed us by a...

    What's on your WORK BENCH ? - March 2020

Not my prettiest work ever but maybe it will hold until the carpenters arrive. In the wee hours of last Tuesday my town was hit by an F4 tornado. 18 died in our community and many were children. We were fortunate to come away with no injuries but a roof from another struck ours with enough force...

    What's the toughest knee boot?

I?ve never gotten more than a couple years out of any of them without some sort of repair. Shoe goo is good but it needs a backer to hold- ripstop nylon works well. I fixed a 2? split across the heel of my Lacrosse like this.

Questions for ALL DBHP Members and lurkers: Harvest Information Program

Whenever I used to get a HIP in person, the clerk had perfected the fastest way through the menu (NOs and zeroes) and never asked a me single question. I didn?t realize what happened until it was too late. It?s all a available online now. I don?t think the average retail/gas station clerk has...

Delving into the world of Decoy Carving

I?d do stretches canvas or slats. You?ll have to take out a second mortgage for all that cork. Never mind how much they?ll weigh.

The Background of Bass Pro's Buyout of Cabelas: You all probably knew this; I didn't

Very similar to what happened to Remington too. New owner/parent company saddled them with another company?s bad debt.

What's with the weird bluebill limit?

I could see the ?higher bag=greater participation? for puddle ducks, but do that many people set out specifically for scaup? If they are down, why not just offer a 1 bird bag limit for all 60 days? Every state will just stick their 2 bird days at the end of the season when the birds are around...

    More clarification needed?

In TN this is handled at the local level. Wildlife management areas that also have waterfowl units require nontoxic when hunting in the bottoms. Lead is ok in the upland areas of the same property. I wouldn?t have a 22 out while hunting ducks regardless. It will be an invitation for a conflict...

    More clarification needed?

The times I?ve squirrel hunted while duck hunting, I?ve just carried nontoxic 4 shot for the ducks and squirrels. We are limited to shot size 4 and smaller for small game hunting. A pistol is not a legal means to take waterfowl as you know. The safe bet for plinking would be to stash the...

    What's on your WORK BENCH ? - January 2020

Not remotely decoy related but my son got a bearded dragon and it out grew it?s tank so I built a lid for this one and the ?jungle gym? in the corner. It looks tiny in the new cage.

    Permanent Blind plans

It?s not uncommon for folks to chase/rescue/lose floaters down here on the big reservoirs either. We get some serious current and drifting debris after storms that has a knack for collecting in blinds, spud poles, and anchor lines. Eventually something has to give.
