Why We Are Not Hunting Today:

Where I the forum "dislike" button? For what is worth, we decided to stay home today, too. Saw 8 total ducks hunting Thursday, and thought there was no way this weather would improve things. Good day to catch up on chores! -Bill

    Cackler/Snowgoose questions

Bob, I think the Cackler sides are a little higher, but really do not know the Devlin garveys that well. If crabbing, I would go 16'. Used to take my 2 teenage boys crabbing in Puget Sound in the BB2, as well as just one of them for spot shrimp, and think the extra couple feet would really...

    Cackler/Snowgoose questions

Bob, If space is the only issue, you can stretch the Cackler to 16' I do not recall anyone on this web site doing a stretched Cackler (maybe someone will chime in and correct me), but the Devlin site says it is easy. -Bill

    Finding Leaks in Neoprene Waders

Outstanding ingenuity- sure beats pulling the waders over your head in a bright room! I may give that technique a try. -Bill

Questions For Anyone Knowledgble About Building Inspections

Eric, I looked in my unfinished detached garage. Wires in the ceiling are un-protected romex, wires running down the wall studs are encased in a tough, flexible plastic pipe like material. I assume it passed an inspection somewhere along the lines. We did have to have the builder come back...

Hard starting (when cold) 1993 mercury 15hp

Paul, I had an old early 1980's 9.8 merc and ~1988 28 HP envinrude around 2004. Both where a little finicky to start. Cleaned the carbs by disassembling and soaking in the old gallon sized "parts cleaner" they sell at auto stores, and both started easy and ran like new after that. Not sure...

? for the outboard motor guys

Jim, I broke an ez-out while trying to extract a broken screw from an old Honda motorcycle engine (aluminum case, 8mm thread I believe). Ended up grinding down the broken extractor piece with some diamond bits in the trusty dremmel until I could push the ultra hard steel deep in the hole past...

    Bending aluminum tubing

Dave, That is slick- love the results. I just defaulted to a conduit bender and having some straight sections in my frame when making my dodgers. -Bill

Trailering a light boat (e.g., Devlin broadbill)

David, Seems like an unusual problem. Are you strapping the boat down tight on the trailer? The first trailer I had my Broadbill on had no carpet on the bunks, and the wood to hull contact quickly ate through the paint and started wearing into the epoxy. Bought an appropriately sized Karavan...

    Workshop Construction

Eric, Well my workshop has shrunk greatly since building it! Interested in leasing a corner of yours for duck boat storage? BTW, progress looks great. -Bill

A lot of you know my middle child is a baseball player

Eric, Glad to hear that the hard work and perseverance paid off- it usually does. I know you and your wife must be proud. Please pass on my congratulations to the young man! -Bill

    Prop replacement

That's why I stayed with aluminum on the 15hp- I believe the prop shaft is little smaller, and would definitely prefer to replace a prop to that. -Bill

    Prop replacement

Dave, Went with a Solas SS prop on my 25hp Yamaha for the BB2 and like it. Believe it was the "New Saturn" model. It has taken some heavy use and abuse from stumps, oyster beds, and rocks, and is still in good shape. Still running stock aluminum on the 15hp. -Bill

    Anyone wear float coats?

Mustang Survival integrity deluxe bomber jacket in brown- I always wear it underway in the dark, but usually do not hunt with it on. A big plus is it is warm and breaks the wind. Definitely recommend them. -Bill

Robert, Did the plans come with the direction package? These boats really are not hard to build, and folks here are always helpful. -Bill

    Outboard Help (almost duck related)

Tom, Thanks for the help. Seems some of the gaskets and bolts appear to have white sealant on them that have a smell that reminds me of Teflon pipe sealant. Do you know if that is what they use at the factory? I may pick up some before reassembling. Also, I did try to do a leakdown test on...

    Outboard Help (almost duck related)

All, Thanks for the ideas, but suspect I found the culprit. Just got the powerhead off and noticed a small, rusty deck screw protruding from the tube that connects the water pump to the engine block. The head of the screw is almost the diameter of the tube and would have been a major...

    Outboard Help (almost duck related)

Hi, Hope season is going well for all. I've had some outboard problems that have slowed me down and would like to see what the mechanics out there think. Last season I thought I was having some overheating problems with my 2004 2-stroke 25 hp Yamaha (posted about it) and thought a new...
