Very sorry to hear the news, Tom. My wife and I have noticed accelerated graying on the muzzle of our lab, Remi. I feel a thud in my gut every time I think about it.

I agree that smaller is tastier in the case of hogs, but I've eaten 200+ lb boars, and they are perfectly edible. However, I'll admit we often use more meat from the larger boars for sausage.

Year of the Canada goose. Only a couple woodies in the early season; otherwise, I've dropped as many honkers as in past seasons, but have over a month of goose hunting still in front of me. I'm going to have goose jerky coming out of my ears. Never a bad thing in my book. My son Joel (12)...

...and first aid kit, of course!

All great suggestions! "Toidy paper," as my dad calls it, is something I often carry (but forgot to put on the list, probably because it's tucked down in the depths of my bag so it stays dry no matter what...as stated above, it's gold when you need it!). Dog treats...a great idea...

I have a ruggedized camera that only spends about half the season in the bag, but every time I look at the awesome pics on this site I rethink the value of getting in the habit of leaving it in there...and actually using it!

As I think about all the stuff that's going under the tree tonight, I wonder what others' packing lists look like for their (walk in) blind bag. Here's mine, which seems to actually get shorter each year, and I'm curious to know how it compares: Shells Cigars & lighter Headlamp Gloves...

Just finished my DIY scissor blind today. Total cost: $200 I used 3/4" EMT, 1" square aluminum tubing for cross members, SS bolts, and new burlap/camo netting. Already hunted with it, and the only improvement in the lurch is to add spring pins to act as the scissor pivot points. Will post...

I used to dread keeping catties, even though I and my family love eating them, because I struggled when filleting them. I've had good luck with the kids catching them this year, and the dread is no longer. After watching a few demo videos, I started using an electric fillet knife. It works a LOT...

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I and a buddy have both bought labs from Iowa Pointing Labs (Tim Gallaezi, sp?), and we're incredibly happy with them. We both have them as family pets as well as hunting retrievers/flushers. Best of luck.
