Dogs flying Delta soon to have to be flown Cargo

I thought that was always the case unless you had a really small dog?

Got them mid season split blues...

Al, I made the best of it yesterday. Took Lucy for a run and she found a pheasant for me, her first sort of fair chase pheasant (it had been stocked by the state). She tumbled on it perfectly, tracked it masterfully and brought it to hand after what I must brag to say was a beautiful shot...

    An unusual hunt

I agree and respect your choice to consider a lost bird part of your bag. I do the same. It is amazing how far a duck can fly already dead isn't it? I lost a bird this year, a drake mallard, and it still bugs me. I haven't killed a green head in over ten years and I guess I just have...

Got them mid season split blues...

Sitting here, listening to the wind howl, and the cloudy night and wishing that the season was in! I have 12 handmade divers, a new boat, blind and motor and a puppy in her first full season all waiting to make their debut, and the season is closed. What is a guy to do? I hate to resort...

Don Thomas has been fired by DU

We are of course hearing just one side of the case, and I don't know his employment status with DU (exempt employee, freelancer, contractor, etc) but he might have a wrongful termination case. I would hate to see DU spend money on a legal battle though if it could be spent on conservation...

    Breakfast In the Blind

Still the funniest stinking thing I have ever seen while hunting was seeing Jon's face when he spilled a whole can of Italian wedding soup on the floor of the boat!

Next duck boat project, ON THE WATER!

Bring it to my driveway and abandon it. It is a total loss. When you see me in it next year you can tell yourself that I got it elsewhere.

    I've gone modern

My dad and grandfather shot skeet semi pro and used 1100's for years. They put tens of thousands of rounds through them shooting a case of shells a week. I have a 20 and 12 gauge from my grandfather. I have no idea what year they were made but they have to be at least 50 years old. They...

    No modern guns here....

I love that Damascus twist barrel. I have an old single shot from 1895 that I don't shoot anymore.

    Freezing up out here.

We are in desperate need of weather, and birds here in Ohio. Aerial surveys are confirming my suspicions that the migration is late this year.

Upland only---no ducks harmed in this post

Today is our opening day. Our birds are stocked, but it is all about the dog work for me. It is 70 degrees and raining. That is why I am typing this right now instead of taking the gun and dog for a walk.

The View From Down South: it's hard to watch you guys while we wait and wait for the calendar to turn!

If it helps, you have not missed much in the area that I hunt. I am in Orlando right now, and I see the swamps and think to myself- his place would be great in about two months!

    Binoculars?

My binoculars are not expensive, but I like them too much to take on the boat in the wintertime.

    Season Medley...

You have more ducks in those pictures than I would harvest in ten years in Ohio. Congrats to your great start.

Anybody ever use this type of Epoxy?

I use that stuff on just about everything. I glue foam sheets with it for decoy bodies, glue wood tails in to blocks, patch holes in my ducker, fill cracks in my chimney, put the sole back onto an old pair of boots, attached a bilge pump to the floor of my hunting boat, filled a dent with a...

    OLD friends

One of my greatest regrets in life is that my first lab Josie did not make it to any sort of ripe old age. I remember once in a bar in Johnson City TN when the bartender, making conversation was asking, if we had one wish what would it be? I said that I wish my Josie would live as long as...
