    Qeustionon boat registration

Here in Illinois any motorized vessel needs to be registered. I don't technically have to register my 12 ft Grumman v bottom or my 17 ft Grumman canoe but I do because I have used a trolling motor on both.

    Qeustionon boat registration

Your drivers license is MN. You're hunting with an out of state WI hunting license in WI I assume. All your boats should follow your state of residence laws. With that said, don't listen to me. You had to go to court over a damn duck as I remember. I'd call or email Wisconsin DNR and ask if you...

Closing out another chapter in my life.

One of my first jobs out of highschool was working at a box company. One of the fork truck drivers dumped a huge load of John Deere boxes and messed up the printing and the boxes so Deere wouldn't take them. I was working 3rd shift and I asked my boss since they have to be scrapped can I have...

Revisiting Steve Sanford's post on lofting boat lines.

We started with the hole in the keel as our base data point. Not real datums in the sense of xyz coordinates. In the photo we placed data markers on a flat surface to establish a horizontal plane to the base of the decoy. After that it was trial and error to determine how many data features were...

Revisiting Steve Sanford's post on lofting boat lines.

The use of a scanner came up in which I posted about my experience with a scanner. Then today my son comes over with a new toy. I thought you guys might be interested. This is our first attempt with Kyle's new scanner with a lot to learn but it was a fun afternoon of trial and error. Our subject...

    Hunting Tragedy in Iowa

My dad had a friend that hunted all over the US and Canada. His office walls were covered in mounts of all types a big game. His hunting ended when he was in Canada on a bear hunt. The guy and his guide were tracking apparently a huge bear when the guide told him to freeze. The guide spotted the...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

Glad your son is there for you. None of my kids wanted to hunt and I never pushed it. It's not for everyone. Like you I'm not running the river in pitch black anymore as I mainly hunt solo. I'm the only one bow hunting the river anymore in my area and I'm okay getting into the deer stand at...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

Since my dad passed on in 2000 I continue to take his hunting partner deer hunting with me. He's 82. Still sharp but not able to walk far these days. The days of dragging deer are over and the boat is beginning to be a challenge. We hunt public on islands in the Mississippi River. He still wants...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

That's a good thought Dave. I do that as well. I started sending with coordinates since she's only familiar with some fishing spots. I've gotten into a habit of wearing my life jacket when I'm out alone these days. Not that I'm worried about anything in particular. I just want to be found.
