    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

So far IL DNR controls my hunting area and the local Corp of Engineers boat ramps are still open and the Mississippi River lock systems are functioning. When I see the government closed rather than negotiating on our behalf and soldiers dropping from helicopters on to apartment buildings in...

    Do it all boat?

Mike, I wasn't familiar with the term "mud patterns". I had to look it up. Interesting concept. Going to give this a try.

    Do it all boat?

My solution in mind is a 10' yak I can manage to get in the boat. At least if I roll out the water isn't deep! In the deer stand now but planning on stopping by the blind location for another look when I leave. Love being back in the woods!

    Do it all boat?

I've been watching this thread with interest. I'm not sure I can remember all the boats Ive gone through in the pursuit of ducks in the last 25 years. I do know at one time there were 7 boats in the yard. Today that number has dwindled down to my 16' Lund deep vee, 12' Grumman vee and a 17'...

    Marsh Seat Recommendations

I've looked at these and thought what keeps it from sinking up to the seat. Of course I'm cheap so my thought was a piece of 2" dia schedule 40 PVC pipe with a schedule 40 flange glued or cross screwed with a 14" seat from Lowes bolted to the flange.

A SIT-UP BOAT BLIND - a brief overview for Ed L. and others

Thank you Steve. This gives me food for thought. The design I envision will be much like you did on Scott's boat but for a solo hunter that will be removable for transport. For weight consideration I'll use laun for the flaps while probably using 1/2" ply to span the gunnels. The bow and stern...

Drawing building plans from an existing vessel

That would be cool! I always liked that handle design you have. My son has a 3d printer.... 🤔

Drawing building plans from an existing vessel

Lofting boat hulls has come a long way baby! I had a little experience with scanning a boat hull for a company here in Illinois with a contract company before I retired. Here is a link that shows the procedure with a good description of how a boat builder goes about creating 3d models to create...

    Identify this BBSB

Welcome Randy. I'm Ed James on Facebook and the guy that suggested this site to you this morning. I see you're getting some interest in your boat already. I might suggest changing your name from netman to your real name. It's a requirement on this site. You probably saw that when signing up. A...

The Style Book of Serviceable Clothing for Life in the Open

When I was a kid before hunting age, I remember my great uncle showing up at the door in tweed and a bowtie to hunt with my dad. That was upland. Those days were Sundays after church. Saturdays were waterfowl with oiled tan hunting coat, plaid shirt, Northern boot company hip boots and a Jones hat!

    Minnesota in October

Duck season in IL starts October 25th in the North zone. Maybe stop for a day or two and hunt with me on the Mississippi River on the way home. $35.75, 5 day non resident license plus $15.50, state waterfowl stamp and free hip. It would be good to see you Dani.
