Air compressor: to fix or not

Hello all-- So here's the question: I have come into an old sears air compressor, which in its prime, was used to spray paint among other things. All in all it was/is a nice machine--20+ gallon tank, 2 hp 240 volt motor--but it has since given up the ghost. The motor is dead and replacements...

Wooden Boat Mag - Anyone have a stash?

Hey guys-- Have to share... my dad was the first publisher of woodenboat through the late 70's-early 80's and we lived at the magazine compound (old estate on the coast of maine) for years. I can't begin to tell you the childhood memories of endless summer days, cookouts on the rocky beach...

    Spray dodger for BBIII

Attached is a pic of Dave's work on my BB II. As far as I'm concerned the canvas absolutely makes the boat and Dave's work is first class.

    bb3 grass rails

Nice work. Only comment that I'd make is that when I first put mine on my BB II they had a gap of 3/4", which looks to be close to what you have there. I found that 3/4" took WAY too much grass, which soaked up the water, which iced, which made the boat very heavy. I later took the rails off and...

Hey guys! What a bunch of great pics Bob. I've saved them down to the hard drive and will be making a print or two for myself. That was a great morning and the kids are still talking about it. Nice to have a keepsake Eric! how the hell are you?!? been thinking I owed you and the forum a drive...

    TX turkey outfitter?

I did a hunt with these guys a few years back and it was great http://www.wildlifesystems.com/spring_turkey_hunting.asp. I did it with a group of four other guys and we had access to 16000 acres to ourselves for 4 days. There was a camp included as well so there was no hotel costs. Essentially...

    Speaking of floor boards.....

I built a slat floor for mine. Used 3/8" cedar slats on stringers cut to fit the shape of the tunnel hull and cut out a 1/2" moon to provide access to the drain plug. the floor is light, flexes somewhat when I stand on it, but keeps me out of the slop. Could not live without it.

    Hey Ira...

I was thinking about the same thing and took it to a local marine canvas place, but the quote was outrageous ($1000) so I passed. I had thought of making one out of plywood, but would rather not have the weight and bulk. Let me know how it works out for you Best jamus

    Hey Ira...

Hey Ira-- Hope you’re doing well. Quick question: have you guys looked into making cockpit covers for the fatboy originals? Mine sits out on top of a trailer and I’d love to get a cover for it so it doesn’t fill with snow and ice and so that I can store doors and whatnots in it when...

    Grassing Rails..gap size?

I cut mine down to 3/8" after starting at 3/4'. 3/4" took WAY too much grass to fill and made the boat extremely heavy when the grass got wet. At 3/8" there's enough room to get a solid covering of grass on the deck, but so much that I resent grassing the boat in the fall

    Home Made Push Pole

I've had great luck with this foot http://www.richmarsports.com/Pushpole_Products.html. I've cut 1 1/8" poles from ash (since it's incredibly flexible) at 16' long, which is as long as they can get into the drying kilns. If I could get 18' I would. Run a stick of ash through the table saw into...

    original fatboy motor size?

hey guys-- hope you all have been well. It's been a while since I posted last. New job, more babies, same old same old... I'm in the market for a motor for my original fatboy and am looking for recommendations on size and make. Ira's sticker says 2.5 hp but I'm wondering if that's truly the...

Arthur Shilstone painting: what's it worth?

Hi-- For years I've been lugging around an unframed watercolor of a guy in a duck blind dispatching a duck on the water. Today, I noted the name of the author, googled him and apparently he's a minor somebody. Any thoughts as to how to get a handle on what the painting's worth? thanks jamus

Nate Grace: Thanks for the tarred line samples

Nate-- Appreciate you dropping those in the mail to me. Off hand, do you know the # size of the larger sample? How do you think that would work for rigging singles? I'd think it would be great for rigging 2 foot droppers for longlines with swivel snaps on the ends, but wondering if it might be...
