    Eye options

my decoys will never see a competition either, but eyes aren't that difficult to put in, I've put in over 300 pairs in the last year. However there are some other options, I paint my own glass eyes, usually 12mm, they cost about a dime a pair. Another option I discovered while rehabbing 60...

I've been working feverishly trying to get some decoys in our own bag now that the ducks are here in force. I did take the time to finish this pair this morning. They have been migrating around the shop for several weeks. I'm not sure about this year since things seem to be so late, but we...

I'll took a look at the AC leggs and will give it a shot. I had the goldeneye for lunch today, it was delicious, I did the soak in salt water and Lawry's seasoned salt, some onion powder, changed out the water twice until it stayed clear. I had it all cut up into finger steaks and dipped them...

    Carving bench / workshop tools

Something else you might want to think about is what to wear in the shop. For pants I have stretchy sweatpants and a hooded fly fishing shirt. They are polyester 86% 14% spandex. I can pull them off easily over my shoes or respirator and keep the dust in the shop and not get the wife riled up...

we usually call it a sausage shoot, in the past it's been breakfast sausage with one of those kit mixes like we do with bear meat. It's strong, kind of like mallards. I soak in salt water, onion powder, seasoning salt over night in the fridge, put them in clean water and salt and seasoning...

That drake on the right is the first duck I've shot in the last 5 years. My chessie and my dad died in 2017 and it kind of took the wind out of my duck hunting sails. I thoroughly enjoyed today with my son and grandson and new spastic lab pup on his first retrieve.

I finished up a redhead this morning. Still adding more species. It's about all we can do when there are no ducks of any kind around.

    Not dad's foamers

it's a western grebe, I think the clark's grebe has white surrounding the eye. It was not a confidence decoy like a heron might be, but a food source. Wigeons don't wear that mask for nothing, they are bandits and are notorious for feeding on food other fowl have brought up from deep water...
