    The girls go turkey hunting....

Saw this elsewhere and figured I'd share it. I think it's pretty darn awesome how pumped up these ladies are. I hope the gun wasn't loaded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm1D0gW3Nz4&feature=colike -D

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

Thanks for looking out for my image John, I appreciate your input. I also thank you for not openly criticizing my decoys. Lord knows that might do damage to you and burn bridges. There's no doubt my decoys are SB's. Maybe it's a good thing I use them, I must be cleaning all of the dumb...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

I've almost stopped laughing, so I guess i can reply to your nonsense. I don't need to come on here and defend my credentials or my reputation. Those that know me well know what I'm made of, and know my capabilities as a hunter, carver, and most importantly a person. It's seems your...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

John, the rules have nothing to do with anyone's opinion of what should be done. The ODCCA determined the rules, and reading them wouldn't change a thing. I'd gladly support filling the pool with all of the rigs, or all of the singles, and find the best 3 of each....Remove the decoys that...

    decoy patterns

Find a picture of the duck, print it out, and make your own pattern. Generally speaking a decoy should be 3 times as long as it is tall and twice as wide as it is tall. This isn't a hard fast rule, but it will get you something that looks proportionally correct and should float right...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

You've summed it up well Rick. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of all of the decoys swimming together. The helpers would pull the decoys as the judges see fit and the last 3 of each species would ribbon, the last 3 puddlers would ribbon, and the last 3 decoys period would...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

Thanks for the explanation Rick. I assumed that was the case, but still think it's a bad idea. Imagine if they let Duke back into the tourney cause they can beat xavier. If you want to pick the 3 BOS then put all the singles in the pool together and remove decoys until you have 3 left....That...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

John- Thanks for the information, but none of it is new information. I understand the situation that exists at ODCCA and I am glad that the show was able to go on. I'm just sharing what I see as things that could be improved. I heard a lot of negative rumblings around the pool, and I hope...

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

I fully understand that I wont always agree with the judges, and surely don't expect to every time. I haven't seen gunning decoy BOS selected using a replacement method. If that's what they want to use at Westlake, so be it, but I disagree with that decision. If someone wants to explain...

    NDR: Spanish Mackerel-Fest

Great catch Carl....What kind of Jigs? I throw gotcha plugs and stingsilvers and move them fast with a little twitch here and there. we also troll a #1 planer and a small spoon. Enjoy the eats, they're definitely a great one for the table. -D

    Westlake 2012 A Cultural Treasure

That black duck of Vince's was one of my favorites from the pool. Great lines and a simple and functional canvas decoy. Great pics thanks for sharing. -D

    Westlake....fun, yet confusing

It was great to get back to the Holiday Inn to see old friends, and meet new ones. Staying up WAAAAy too late proved to be quite entertaining and I can honestly say I heard some of the deepest conversations about decoy carving that I've ever heard, and had a pretty darn good margarita! The...

James has moved a little north....

....and none too soon. It was 62 degrees here in MD today. James missed this mornings hunt, but will have a busy week next week. It's been a strange season for us here in MD. The geese have barely arrived and the duck hunting has been sporadic at best. Stay tuned. -D

Shot a big buck Friday afternoon....

Congrats on a great buck Jay. Our gun season starts on Saturday and I hope one of the guys in our group has an encounter with a similar deer. We have a bunch of good bucks running around and everyone has seen their share this year with a bow in hand. Glad to hear your son is doing better as...

Glad to see all of your hard work paying off Mark. Congrats. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. -D

    Ok, am I being pranked?

This is one of those years that proves why MD should keep the majority of it's 60 days as late in the season as possible. It doesn't matter how many ducks are out there if it never gets cold enough for them to migrate. Same with the geese. It was a below average nesting year for the Ungava...

Hevi Shot or Remington Hyper Sonic Pros and Cons?

Kent Fasteel in 3" #2's out of that 20 ga will knock down everything you need it to. We passed a 20 ga. around on a goose hunt last January and had no problem putting them down properly out to 35yds. Shoot a tight choke and aim for the head. -D

    Sworfish -NDR

Great pics Jim. Glad to see that the last long trip was a good one. Thanks again for the hospitality and help with hunting the cape when we were up. Matt had a kid this past summer and Chris is up in Alaska killing salmon so there won't be a trip north for me this year. Happy hunting. -D

    Go Pro cameras

I have a few of them and have made an underwater towable housing and a dredge mount for a friend of mine who marlin fishes a ton. They are very cool cameras and are only limited by where your imagination will put one. A guy and his son sent one up on a weather...
