Steve, The widgeon plans have the folding oarlocks using 1” stock. I was thinking of reinforcing as well. What source do you use for bronze or brass rod? On a folding oarlock does the 5/8” dowel in the oarlock remain fixed or is the dowel fixed in the mounts? If it rotates in the oarlock...

Is there a preferred wood grain orientation for oar locks. I am building mine out of near quartersawn white oak. Is the grain better parallel to the boat or vertical. A hairline crack in the oarlock has me wondering.

Interesting oarlocks on that boat.

But how would we get a new resource on boat repair?

I use Raka and have no complaints.

I grew up in NJ with no hunting on Sunday's. With full week hunting that prevents others from enjoying woods during the season. Others will have different opinions but I would not risk going into woods for a hike during an active season. Rick

Eric, I took advantage of the deal as well to replenish my supply. I use plastic cups. I get the 2oz. 4oz and 12 oz cups from grocery store and mix 2:1. I also use plastic bowls and plates since the epoxy doesn't adhere and can be reused. Rick

After the interior paint dried, I removed the masking tape. Using 1/4 ply I fit the stern and bow pieces. I scribed the exterior and the layout of the ribs on the underside. I then marked the screw spacing and drilled pilot holes. I find this a better way then trying to locate the center...

After installing the shelves on either side of the boat, I fitted and installed white oak mounting points for the oar locks. The next step was to temporarily attach supports for the frames prior to cutting them for the cockpit opening. I then cut the ribs and installed a 1/2” by 1” cockpit...

I would be sure you can exit the boat quickly in case of accidental capsize. Just a concern I have with narrow boats. There are a couple skin on frame boat designs for inspiration in the resources section. Rick Lathrop
