    Deadmount finally coming together!

I have but I like the true aged look better. Yes it is 100x harder to work with, but worth it in the end. Trying to get permission to get some from a barn or trying to but some is like asking someone to give up their first born. Barns are sacred in the South! LOL

    Deadmount finally coming together!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. I am fortunate enough to live close to a world class taxidermist, so it made this idea come together a little easier. The day I took the display up to Shane he was like "Wow", then we brain stormed for a little while then he came up with a plan on how to...

    Deadmount finally coming together!

Well stop looking at it and get to work! LOL..But seriously I wish I had 1000 board feet. I said after working with barn wood on this that I would never mess with it again but that's not lasting long. I am already trying to find more for some other projects. Thanks to everyone for the...

    Deadmount finally coming together!

It's sitting in the corner of my trophy room. The display is a corner style display. To put it into perspective it is 80" tall 60" wide and 28" deep, the actual display section where the birds are is 48" tall. This things weighs 200lbs +.

    Deadmount finally coming together!

I about knocked out one of my friends swinging to shoot those before he ever had the chance to pull up his gun. As soon as I saw his feet hit the water he got pounded and got the hen as she was scrambling to get away.

    Deadmount finally coming together!

Yeah that's one that well be hard to get a real good one around here. I hope I can get lucky on some of the other trips but if not I guess I will have to head out that way. I've killed plenty but none around here that I am too proud of. I am hoping to add a pair of Blacks, the hen Wood Duck, and...

    Deadmount finally coming together!

I am very pleased with how everything turned out. To be honest I did not have much faith in myself when building the display but now I can say I am proud of my work. At first I had no idea how I was going to have all the birds mounted (flying, standing, sitting, swimming, habitat scene etc.) but...

    Deadmount finally coming together!

Let me start off by saying thanks to Shane Smith, a great taxidermist and great man to be around. My goal is to have mounted a pair (drake and hen) of all the North American species that you can differentiate the sexes apart. I'm slowly checking off the list and generating trophies each year. My...

Slow year in Heart of Dixie

Thanks for the comments. Shooting woodies down here is like shooting flies. If you have a spot they want to be in they are in there by the hundreds. Those we shot this year we ok but nowhere near like the one a buddy of mine shot last year on his birthday. He killed his first Canvasback (one on...

Ideas on a small duck boat

X2 I will more than likely get a boat from Bender once I slow down on my quest for species and start hunting back waters more. I might just pick one up when I go down there to hunt. Either way great little boats, light weight, low profile, and stable!

Slow year in Heart of Dixie

This was by far the worse season I have had in Alabama but not gonna complain too bad. I managed to scratch off a few birds and my girlfriend killed her first duck this year and she is hooked. She fired 5 shots total out of 3 hunts and killed 3 birds (1st hen Bluebill, 2nd hen Goldeneye, and 3rd...

Well another duck season has come and gone

Oh how I would love to hunt Florida..great pics! I thought I got funny looks at the boat ramp pulling my duck boat with an Impala, like the bike and trailer!

    Alabama gang

Yeah..hunting just ain't the best around these parts like it normally is. Others have had a better year than most, but on a personal level worst season I've had in 8 years. I tend to normally harvest around 80-100 birds a year by myself and sitting at around the 40-50 for this year. The...

    Square Style Layout Boat?

Has anyone ever built a square style layout boat? I am thinking about it and have a rough idea on what I want. Keep in mind this will be for a big hunter, 6'4" wanting to support at least 350lbs.

    East Coast/Florida Hunting Help

I was hoping to get to hunt Florida this year but things just didn't go as planned. Just a little background on myself. I am what some would consider a young waterfowler but I am very avid about the sport. I am one of the few in my area that will specie hunt. If I want to go kill Goldeneyes I...

    East Coast/Florida Hunting Help

I am wanting to do the trip in January so I get mature fully plumed birds. Like I said I would love to collect a drake and hen of each specie for my collection but if not then I understand. That's why its called hunting instead of killing and I appreciate that saying more than most.

    East Coast/Florida Hunting Help

I am taking a 2 full weeks to travel so I'm hoping I can cover most of it if not all during that time. If I don't get everything I want oh well..that's what the following season is for. I know my taxidermist is going to love it when I get back so I'm trying to save as much as far as the...

    East Coast/Florida Hunting Help

Next year I am planning on hunting the East Coast trying to collect the following species (Common Eider, all three Scoters, Longtails, Red Breasted and Common Merganser, Black Duck, Brant and maybe a Tundra Swan). I will want to collect a pair of each species. I am willing to pay guide fees but...
