    Toyota Pickup Project

Eric I've watched this project unfold with the hopes of one day finding a Toyota and following in your foot steps and rebuild it. It is the perfect truck for the dirt backroads in the Eastern Sierra. Great project. Great outcome. Tight Lines ... Fred

    Taking a Mental Health Day

I hunt with a friend that knows if I have to take the worm out to pee he better cover me. Seems every time I do that the ducks come right into the decoys. Tight Lines ... Fred

Oregon Opener and a special trip

Nice to hear someone did good. Out of three parties (nine hunters) in the Oregon Straights we ended up with no birds for two of the parties. The other group got five ducks and two honkers on Monday morning before the nine hour drive south to home. Worst opener for killing birds, one of the best...

They are a good duck to use the flank feathers for tailing, wing cases, and posts. They are great for tying Bird's nest. Tight Lines ... Fred

Weather forecast for the western Washington and Oregon Duck Opener

Hunted the eastern Oregon opener on Saturday with blue bird weather. Hunted an afternoon in a goose field with just a T-Shirt. What a pleasure. We're getting clouds and nothing else out of this storm. Tight Lines ... Fred

    Ducks. Feathers. Fly tying.

As far as a book goes. The best I can come up with is a manual from 1980 titled Hunters Wanted Now by Ed Story. In this Ed writes of how to form a mail catalogue business of selling fur and feathers to fly tiers from animals shot by the hunter or trapper. There is a section on the feathers...

    Snow & Sleet

Carl checked on one of my favorite ponds today around two pm. Two mergansers on the pond and it it 70 degrees out with a mild to almost non existent wind. Tomorrow is my last chance to hunt. Think I'm going to stay home and tie flies. Tight Lines ... Fred

I hear yeah. Put in for a draw to hunt opening weekend on Tule Lake Refuge for specks. Since it is federal, no hunting this weekend. So I have four days off from work with no where to go. Tight Lines ... Fred

    Waders

I have the same inseam length. I use large long on all my waders. There are pluses and minuses with all wader types. Switched from neoprene to breathable about two years ago. The fit and mobility is great. I can get enough warm clothes under them to stay warm most of the time. My feet are...

    This morning's teal hunt

Al, Those photos makes me wish we had an early season teal hunt. Teal are my favorite bird to hunt and eat. Last season opener we had a group of blue wings land out about 50 or 60 yards. My hunting partner for the day decided to take the long shot as they spooked. He counted out one...

    Teal Reports?

We do not have an early teal season. Was out fishing for bluegill on a local pond the other night and saw 14 teal. They were skittish and took off as soon as I started paddling out. Bluegill fishing was fun. Took four or five gills in the pound and half to two pound range. Tight Lines ...

    No sheeps this year.

I admit I love drinking juice boxes. Use them all winter when we are skiing. Catch some crap from my buddies, but they do the trick for hydrating and energy. Can't believe Mac has grown up right in front of our eyes. Tight Lines ... Fred

Truck Advice: Where to put the dog?

I had my dog ride in the front of any vehicle on the passenger floor board. I figured that way if we ever ended up in an accident she was less likely to be thrown around the vehicle. It only proved a problem when the passenger did not want to share the front with the dog. That was easily...

    simple garage tool decoy carving

Really want to learn about carving, but the fly fishing invitation is the hard one to turn down. Live in trout country and only occasionally fly fish for warm water fish. Kind of a preamble to the upcoming trout season. Someday I may be able to take you up on this offer. Tight Lines ... Fred

    simple garage tool decoy carving

I seem to be the exception. When I built my Kara I was intimidated by the wood working not the fiber glassing. Same is true of decoys. Not sure of the woodworking, but the painting seems easy. Tight Lines ... Fred
