    How to spend $150.00

So, I spend a lot of time here without posting much. I'm planning on getting serious about ducks in the Wa coastal area in 2011. I recieved $150.00 in Cabellas gift cards for xmass. Any suggestions to get me started? Thanks Ron

Just showing off and "struttin" a little---

Al You have a very nice camera, but that doesn't do anything for composition. You demonstrate an extreme talent in framing shots that have an ability to realy provide the feeling of the event. This series did not dissapoint, as usual. My wife is not into ducks, or duck hunting. But if I tell...

    September-Whats in your kitchen ndr

That's classy work. I really like the little details like the sweep of the serving spoon handles. Do you have e web sight or catalog? My NDR hobby that shows what little talent I have is tying flies. Unfortunately everything I do is 1300 miles away. Ron

    Gene R's broadbill rebuild

I think that is great insurance. I would use epoxy to attach the board inside the top and bed the screws with 4200 while they go in. 5200 is a little rigid and you may decide to pull it apart for some reason later down the line. Ron

    18 ft Military boat

I would love that boat. I don't think I have a use for it but my Grandfather built Bailys in WWII and I'd keep it around for sentimental value. I'll dig up some photos from his unit using them and see if I can get them posted. Ron

    Anither NOOB question.

Thanks guys. I didn't have a specific question, it was just something that struck me. I will be hunting sea ducks so calls won't be my first focus. My supply officer is a good kid from deep down in the South East, he can call like nothing I've heard before. Ron

Duck hunting cart? Cart/ layout blind combo?

Cuncur with bicycle wheels. BMX wheels if your going over dirt (I'd assume you are.) I have two carts, one for beach fishing and one for the pier. Their have been alot of carts marketed for sporting clays, maybe look to them for inspiration? I prefer the "stand up" cart with a frame simillar to...

    Anither NOOB question.

Pardon me, but when I joined a board about duck hunting I assumed I would see more posts about duck calls. I have seen one or two nice examples of calls made on here, but not much talk of using them. Do you not use calls on sea ducks? Thanks Ron

    Interesting Duck Boat Build

No relation to Mr. Ted. Just a guy who grew up on a 42 Californian. One brother sells boats from time to time, another is a service / parts manager at a dealership and I live half my life welded in a boat underwater. I've been messing around in small boats for 38 years, and I'm 38 years old. I...

Boat build summer 2010. (Added a third round of pics)

Sawn frames, slight rocker, nice. Question, I don't see any seams for oakum, how are you planning on sealing it? Please tell me you aren't going to sheath all that hard work in glass. Ron

    Interesting Duck Boat Build

Corecell is not just foam core for substrate. It is structural and different types are used for different parts of the boat depending on application. You can put a boat together without glass and walk on it and even jump up and down on it. It is the same difference as foam core engineered...

    Interesting Duck Boat Build

Their is so much I like about that boat. The quasi offshore bracket is the only way a motor should be mounted in my less than humble opinion. If your gonna encapsulate everything in glass, and can afford it, closed cell structural foam makes way more sense than wood. Other than the fact that it...

Very nicely done Pete. I know you have to do it but I'm gonna have to try hard not to cry when you post a pick of all that bright work painted. Ron

    raising motor on transom

Tom Can you give a little more information or a picture or two? What kind of motor mount do you have? What size is your motor and how is it currently mounted. Answer those or give a pic and I'm sure you'll get the help you need. Ron

decoy bag brainstorm on a marsh skiff any ideas?

That hull looks a lot like a decked canoe. I would think the bags would, if nothing else, drive you nuts while paddling. If you are going to make these bags, I'd recomend bow and stern bags, It looks like they could actually be bigger than your flank bag design and would help in trimming the...

    Decoy blanks?

Gentlemen I have 10 acres of trees and some are coming down this year. I have Sitka spruce, hemlock, a little alder maple and western cherry and litterally millions of board feet worth of Doug fir and Cottonwood. I haven't decided how many of which trees are coming down yet, but I would like...

    Some pics-----

AL Those are amazing shots, it looks like a wonderful day out. Now to a practical matter. If you happen to pheasant hunt and find that cock in season I'll pay good money for him. I could do nothing but tie flies for the rest of my life and STILL leave material for my kids!! Thanks, I enjoyed...

Sugar Pine Bleed - Assist Requested

3% is DRY!! I usually measure anything from 7-10% when I get kiln dried lumber. I am reasonably certain that 3% Pine would be like a matchstick. I have not worked with sugar pine, but I have experienced what you are going through with maple. I would try a commercial sealer. It penetrates the...
