Gold Leaf Waterfowlers Outdoor Expo (NC)

I was able to attend last year and it was a good show for it's first year. There is talk of it being even larger in 2016. nut grass wanted

I might be able to dig up some in the spring and mail them to you. I guess the question would be how the laws are written about importing invasive plants , I can't imaging thus weed not being all over the U.S. Phil

    nut grass wanted

Worth, I have a garden spot that has tons of this very nasty weed each spring. The seed stays deep in the ground so when you try pulling it up all you get is the top growth of the weed which breaks off above the seed pod. Then it just grows new shoots.

    Flocking a mallard hen

I would do what makes you happy and looks good to you. A duck flying by at 20 mph won't notice the fine detail. For those of us who carve our own decoys there is always the problem of when to stop adding detail, do the ducks care probably not. Does the guy getting ready to drop a $ 100 bill on a...

    AE Allen Decoy breaking?

The broken bills are usually the issue ,I do like Steve and use a small drilling bit to drill out a small hole going length wise into the bill then insert a finishing nail.I am usually careful with my decoys but with E- Allen's or my own handmade decoys bills and tail boards are going to get the...

    AE Allen Decoy breaking?

What part of the decoy broke, was it at a neck joint, mid body? I don't think cold temps would cause it . I have hunted here in NC in some low teens and single degree temps using these decoys. You might send Lou a email and see what he thinks.

    AE Allen Decoy breaking?

I have a small rig I bought from Lou back in 1993 and they are still in good condition except for a few broken bills. I keep them stored in the shop during the off season. Never had a issue with them becoming brittle or material breaking down. Phil

    Interesting note in today's paper

Yea we had a bill here in N.C. that passed making it legal to use a suppressor while hunting. The ways understand it you get a back ground check , pay a $200 tax /fee and register it with the state. Rumor has it a o.k. quality suppressor costs $400 to $500 not including the fitting. Heck...

Bluebill Banding 2014... (Rekindling an old post...)

Pat, I was wondering if you guys ever recaptured birds from the day before or prior years.Might be worth getting trapped in a cage 2 days in a row for another helping of corn. :)

    Getting started carving

If carving medium is cork you can get by with a half round rasp and sand paper for the body.Carving knife and sand paper for head, need a hand saw to notch out tail board. This is bare minimum,if cut outs are wood might need draw knife ,wood chisel .You can get by with screwing block of wood on...

What do you say and why?

When I return from a hunting trip my wife ask's did you "get anything".Mom when she' s around wants to know did you "kill any", and co workers ask did you "catch anything" I usually say yea I shot a couple ducks , yea I killed a deer. No big fields of crops here so I "pick"from the garden.
