3 Dogs Joe........

We started early this morning making use of my buddy's equipment, his excavator, front end loader and 5 yard dump truck. We took what was left of last summers 3" minus road base rock up at the pit and used it to rock the base of the road from where the new house will be up to the pheasant pens.

He he brought me a 20 ft. long 12" culvert and we installed it first in the low spot that drains down through the south side of the 6 acre food plot into the upper pond.

We will dig out & rock line the drainage fron the culvert to the pond.

First load of 3" minus went over the culvert in a double thick layer.

A few loads later we had it up to the pheasant pen.

By the last load we had it all the way up where the quail pens will be. Sunday morning Bob will spread it out and compact it with his excavator.

After the road base rock is in place we will haul down the granite boulders I have picked out for the cabin foundation timbers, so I can get that started.

Then in the next few days we are going to load up all the rock that is up at the rock pit and truck it down to an area west of the barn where we plan to stock pile it for future use and sales. If the people accept my cointer offer escrow will close the 29th of this month and I don't want to leave any of that granite behind that I sat aside last summer at the rock pit. I have most of it sold anyway and need to have it where I can load it onto dump trucks.

Had teh first two Mexican Speckled Quail hatch this morning and they are doing fine. The chukar are really starting to grow now and the pheasants are doing great. You can see the colors starting to show on the roosters now that they are 3/4 grown.

Judy has spent the last few days digging up dozens of plants around teh hiuse that she wants to have for later. She has about 10 different old world roses she's taken starts from. She's moved about 40 pots of plants and roases down by the barn where she's watering them everyday. Landscaping should be no problem for her when the new house is ready.

Yak wid ya later,

Dave

The plan is moving right along.Good to get the rock down before the property closes. Are you going to attempt to hatch more quail eggs this year? You sure did loose a bunch. You should know today on the counter offer, right?

Joe, the foundation rocks for your cabin were the first rocks brought down this morning and they are sitting right in front of where the cabin will go.

We then started hauling down the rest of the boulders and I had Bob dump them in a straigt row about 100 yards west of the barn on a flat area. There are about 30 more dump truck loads of the big stuff that we'll haul down before we start in on the smaller rocks. I want to also get the estimated 15 truck loads of DG down as I can use it later for paths around the bird pens.

No more eggs until next Spring. I had more Mex. Speckled Quail hatch this morning, they sure are cute little fuzz balls.

My realator called this afternoon and said the buyers have accepted my counter offer...........so we are off to the races with a closing date of August 29th if everything goes O.K. til then. My CPA did well and we will be paying almost nothing in Cap. gain taxes. We are looking at about $515K at the end of the month. That should help to make your little cabin nice and cozy as they say.

The other people, who want to make a vinyard on the property are sending up a representive tomorrow to look the place over again. They want to cash us out at our asking price, but will now have to wait and see if the current deal fails, which is un-likely as the first couple are doing a 1031 and do not have to apply for a loan. But it's nice to have a back-up sale with people waiting in the wings. Too bad they did not call a couple of days earlier, it would have been theirs for sure. When it rains it pours as they say.

Judy's reply was..........Good, I guess I'd better start pacling stuff!

Congrats on the sale. Will there be enough to build a runway for Joe O?

Not to worry.Grants Pass has an airport, and we would need to stop and buy some Shotgun sheels for my guns,as I know Dave doesn't have enough at his place.I got to leave room for Grits!DAVE LOVES THAT STUFF.

Joe will have those big "Tundra" tires on his plane so he can land on my 1200 foot long straight driveway on the new place.

BTW I saw a very nice $140K Boeing "Steerman" sell for $90K at auction today. A great two seater biplane in cherry condition.

You better take better care of that knee of yours or we'll have to amputate, Jeeeze!

Dave

It ain't so............I got enough shotshells loaded to supply all the Conferderate States. Which brings up another issue.........I think there should be a Law that prohibits the transport of "Grits" out of any of the Confederate States.............that stuff tastes horrible, YUCK!

Anyone who would eat grits deserves to live in hot, humid climates. :^)

BTW The vinyard people were here today and love the place, so now they are waiting to see if anything goes wrong with the current buyers purchase.

I told my realator that I should sell it to both of them, I'd double my profit and since there are two bedrooms....the buyers could share the home & property.....right?

View attachment Bear hauler.jpgDave, I see your getting every thing organized and things are falling in to place but since you have such a mean bear to deal with I found the perfect gun for you. At the same time I went to the scrap yard and picked out a plane for Joe to finish off the bear just in case it's wounded. I didn't leave Jim out out of it either. He kin follow a long in the bear hauler. I hope that airport is big enough to handle the traffic. I had to pull a lot of strings to put this all together. It pays to know people. hee heeView attachment black powder gun2.jpgView attachment Bear hauler 2.jpgView attachment Bear attacker.jpgView attachment Bear hauler 2.jpgView attachment Bear hauler 2.jpg

Dave,I knew I'd get your dander up with the shotshell and/or Grits remark.I'll fix you polenta, which is what grits really is,and you'll like it,or you'll have to eat the shotgun shells;o) Too bad that Vinyard couple waited too long to commit. You could have an auction going on to the higest bidder.Maybe they will buy what's left for a big number.Birds and all.
Dave's unimproved driveway.8% grade.Full power,just to get up there.

Pete...............Joe should be able to find his plane in that "Pile of Aluminum". Maybe that A-10 whould suit Joe better, after all he does kinda remind me of a clean shaven "Wart Hog".............hehehehehehe!

As for the Bear Gun, it looks good to me, maybe a little under-bore, but my question is this........is it drilled and tapped for a 4-12X Leupold?

Dave

Dave, Joe will like that A10 The piper cub of jets.

That cannon has some holes in it for the aiming mechanism. It could be adapted for your Leupold. I was thinking grape shot, no missing with that. I have a friend who is part of a Civil war enactment group who go to a range and fire a canon every year. He invited me along and I am going to take him up on that. I sure wouldn't mind having one of those in my front yard. Every fourth of July to start the fire works display.

Dave, Joe will like that A10 The piper cub of jets. Pete, you bet,The best jet ground support plane ever. The A-1 Skyraider ,used for rescap in Viet Nam were the best prop planes The Airforce almost scraped the A10 in the eighties, then Kawait came along. Dave,I could be a Wart Hog humper, hot dog ,fire breathing loud in bloomen, mit allus goes kaput.

Pete
My cannon is a 1/4 size Parrott revolutionary cannon with a 3/4 " bore with a barrel length of 15' on cast iron field carriage. It will fire cannon barrels but I never did. It weighs 52 lbs and was a birthday present from my wife back in 1971. That's probably more information that you wanted. I've collected small cannon in places we have traveled thru the years. Sorry, didn't mean to get started but you struck a responding cord. I love cannons and their history.
