7 year old decoy

My son wanted to make his first decoy. He put about 15 hours of work into the bird. The last day of carving he worked about 4 hours with only two or three 10 minute breaks. I told him to sand it as smooth as a babies butt. I looked over one time and he had the bow sander in one hand and his other hand down the back of pants. I asked, What are you doing? He said " Checking to see if it is smooth enough". duh

That is awesome. Keep it going. Gona be a special day when a bird dumps in on that decoy out front.

Outstanding! better than anything I could carve. Tell him he did a great job. I like the way he checks for smoothness! ha ha ha ha

Hey Jason,

Hope all is well buddy. That's a great story and a great looking decoy. If he keeps that up I might have to commission him to carve one to put next to that great looking gaddy I have.

Take it easy.

You need to get Bill to add a youth division in this year's contest. That definitely deserves a ribbon or two.

Jason,

Tell the young man "well done!". It is awsome that you can share your interest with your son. Bet you'll be making a place on the mantel for this masterpiece!

Take care,
Bill

He seems to have a genetic talent that will only progress to even greater decoys in the future...At least he didn't have my talent of doing a potatoe head on his first birds...

Absolutely wonderful addition to the MALARKY Crew...

Regards,

Kristan

Way to go Jason! Glad you got him into carving. It already looks better than anything I have tried to do. We will have to hunt with him over that block this year. Shawn

Jason,

Tell your son he has made a very nice decoy.

As for the sanding instructions,,,,,, I don't even want to know if that is the "quality control procedure" that his dad uses. :>) :>)

Thanks guys for the comments. He has taken it show friends and grandparents. He gets the credit for working hard. We went to the hardware store before starting the decoy so that he could buy his own rasp. He is excited to have his own tool. I would have never thought that he would of had the attention span. I was wrong. He is wanting to make another decoy. As for me carving. I have a pet project going for myself not much else. I did a few birds early own this year. I will attach a few. Doc Mc. you coming south in Oct? Guys I will let him read these comments when he gets home Thursday. He will be excited.
