I stopped in Cabelas on the Friday before Thanksgiving to see the new A300 Ultima. I was able to handle it, cycle the action and shoulder it a couple times. Seemed like a decent budget gun. When talking the folks behind the counter, they informed me that there were just 15 of each of the 2 camo patterns being offered for the Black Friday event. The store would open at 5am, but the firearms folks were arriving at 3am. I decided to stay up Thanksgiving night, and set an alarm in case I fell asleep watching the games and tv. At 1:30 I changed into some fleece lined pants, and a wool sweater. Grabbed my hunting coat, a sleeping bag, and a camp chair.
When I pulled into the parking lot, there were at least 12 vehicles idling, but no one out at the doors forming a line. As I was prepared, I parked and started the line! Soon most others joined me though they were not happy and not as well prepared. Most if not all where too young to have camped out for concert tickets and therefore were unaware of how it was done!
At 3am, the door opened and the clerk asked who was present for firearms. As I was the only one, I was invited in, and quickly made my choice, filled out the FFL, and made my purchase. I was back in my truck headed home at 3:20am. Back home and in bed by 4am.
Slept until 10, showered, eat and was back at Cabelas to submit the State paperwork, and pick up the new shotgun.
It has been a few years since my last purchase, and the protocols have really gotten intense!
I will report back sometime this season on how I like it.... but with all the discounts and gift cards, I was out the door for less than $400.
