An Important Anniversary Wednesday: 75th Anniversary of the Armistice Day Storm

Brothers,
I'm sure all of us know what happened on November 11, 1940. It was still the time of Great Depression. Pearl Harbor remained 13 months distant. And it was the day that more duck hunters died than any other day in any other storm.

I thought it would be good to share links, articles and copies of first hand accounts about that great storm. The link below is a good account to get us started.

I"m still looking for a link to Gordon Mcquarrie's account. He made the rescue on the Mississippi river sound like a small version of Dunkirk.

For the many of you who are "in season", Wednesday would be a good day of meditation and prayer in memory and in honor of those who died.

Enjoy the link below. Highlight and then go to the address.

I think I will opt to pay homage to their memory, as well as the game they chose to pursue, by spending the day in "the Marsh". There is weather coming-in late today, with 1.6" of rain forecast for the southern U.P. coast, going over to snow/sleet and strong winds (gusts to over 50mph forecast for tomorrow)over the next three days. Gore-tex and other breathable membrane fabric waterfowl garments and neoprene waders are a significant upgrade over the cotton duck most wore during that event....

When you mark their memory, please add a notation for the ship's crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which also succumbed to a November gale this week.

Larry,

This link as an audio story put together by our local Public Radio. Script also, but it's a good listen.
