And there was light!: Sneakbox progress

Looks great. I too am looking for a BBSB project. I just wish that we had some of this style boat in my area so I could see one, and make some decisions on what I need when it comes to size and construction method. Keep up the good work.

Looks good Dave!

Guys, This boat is first class all the way. I got to see it a few months ago when I visited with Dave. Although it is a restoration it looks like a new build. Dave isn't hiding anything or covering stuff up. I can't wait to see it on the water in NJ this fall!

Dave,

That box is looking good. I also look forward to seeing it on Barnegat Bay. Sounds like a good reason for another round up on LBI.

Now dodger coaming is installed, as is the bow handle, and rubrail. Used remaining rubrail to make some rub strakes for the chocks. What you see in the pictures are not the rub strakes I will install. After I made the first set I decided they were not long enough. The new set are 10 inches long for a 4 inch chock. The rub rail is rigid and slightly concave, so it will sit on the edge of the deck nicely. I will bed it with 5200 and a couple SS screws tonight along with the chocks, then locate and install the cleats. I am wondering if I should have bought the skene chocks that are angled? Maybe I will do that today too?

That is looking sweet Dave, nice job, dont worry about the speed you are going, the slower you go the better job you will make of it, and wont make any cock ups. I would love to pick up a restoration job like this but we dont have any BBSB,s in the UK that I know of and definity not secondhand. Im looking forward to seeing the finished job.
Take care and God Bless

Its all about Building that Bond.

Very nice work, Where did you get the rub rail? Need to get some for my Broad Bill.

Thanks
Gene

Hamilton Marine, they have many configurations to choose from. John Bourbon used it on his Snowgoose build. He installed it on the runners as well and it has held up to 8 or 9 seasons now. I used it on my runners and keel too as sacrificial. It is hard stuff, and difficult to bend/straighten, even with a heat gun, but the bend forces it tight to the sheer in most cases. Around the bow was challenge and it worked fine until I thinned the back to fit over the bow handle. Then it broke! I should have removed the tab on the handle instead. I gooped it up with 5200 and will sand it nice when it cures, paint will hide that sin I hope.

Dave,
that boat is going to be really nice when you get her done.

Great to see it coming along.

Hi Dave. I can't wait to see the finished product! I have been living vicariously through photos for too long!

John

It looks like you have a nice job going there. Mine is all done now, but I miss the fun of working on it. Your boat looks GREAT.

Well I did some final hand sanding last night, vacuumed the entire outside, then wiped her down with lacquer thinner and rolled her into the garage. The boat tent is not completely watertight, and we are forecast for some heavy storms tonight. I plan to paint the deck tonight or tomorrow on my day off. Pictures to follow this weekend.
