I heard, supposedly from an Atlantic flyway biologist, that next year they want a 60 day season with a 2 duck daily bag limit for the entire Atlantic flyway. Probably because of more hunters then there are ducks. Apparently while the overall duck numbers are up, the Atlantic flyway numbers are down. If you think about it, we have MORE people hunting in states where there is less open space. NJ specifically has more duck hunters than I've ever seen before. Opening day on one lake that is 3/4 mile long by 1/4 wide had 20+ guns in the marsh. I've seen less birds this season opener than ever before.

Hope the rumor isn't true, but I wouldn't be surprised. If I were a duck in the Atlantic flyway, I'd be heading out west too.

This doesn't suprise me as 3 out of 4 DHBP members are from Jersey...you guys have the URL written on the walls of the crapper at the boat launch?

from 6 ducks per day to 2??? not gonna happen. think of the economical impact that would have on the flyway. would shut down alot of guide services. who would travel to shoot 2 ducks? not me. id just have to spend more time in the pacific flyway!....

Dont know anything about the decision or the science, BUT I have been going to our states courtesy waterfowl season date hearing every year for a while.
We have been hearing for some time that the mallard based model that has been granting the 60 day liberal package is not working for some species. How that gets handled is not something I understand but I know we are spoiled when it comes to days and total compared to the lean seasons they used in the past when numbers were down.

Going to be tough on all the "Quack Stackers", I sure am going to miss them.

It's a rumor that someone who sits on the Atlantic Flyway Council has not heard, no talk of such a thing happening. I asked. Hitch

Anything is possible. I remember when the rumor was that they were going to shut down goose hunting in Maryland and everybody said, " it will never happen, guide services would throw a fit!" It happened, for several years. It also made a hell of a difference on the population. I wasnt to fond of the states that were allowed to keep hunting while the rest of is watched them fly by.

---should read "in a state" ...... I think about it all the time; sorry about your luck.

I'll only say that is only a rumor based on misunderstanding. The current model set for Eastern mallards is not performing well and work is needed to fix it. That work is underway. If the work wasn't done then the models would indicate that restrictions are needed. I wouldn't sell your duck hunting gear quite yet.

It seems like we hear these types of "rumors" every year and they never seem to come true. Whether its a rise in the limits or a reduction. I'll believe it when I see it ....

Pure BS, posts like this just serve to keep spreading pure rumors with no truth to them.

Does the Eastern mallard model and other species specific limits need tweaking? Yes, but no one is predicting something as radical as 2 ducks/60 days given current population levels.
