Made the run down to MS Sound to chase redheads and buffies. Solo trip, teenager wanted to sleep. We'll see how it goes.

I would have gone, thanks for the invite.

Lol.

Good luck, we can't hunt on Sunday up here. Not enough birds to try for any way. Yesterday was miserable.

I'm going to go clamming

I would pick some oysters and seaweed but we have red tide just south and east of here. Worst bloom ever, cell counts in the million/liter

Good luck Carl. I slept in myself this morning, last day of the season for my zone. Maybe the birds I won't shoot today, will make it all the way to you and you can shoot that "greenhead" that has eluded you for so long now. :>) :>)

Yeah, I slept in too. No ducks around these parts. Must all be in Alabama...

Family activities scheduled for this morning anyways. (good thing the weather and ducks aren't cooperating, I don't have to make up an excuse).

Good luck and be safe!

Jon

Nothin so far. Few flocks of redheads seen but none close to me. Made a move, see what happens.

I am so bored Nikki dragged me out on a run. Getting my lungs ready for next spearfishing season.

My slipper springs came in for my trailer though. I'll fix that then I'm working on some more broadbill.

Carl, Keep up the good work and reports!

Wish the best of luck to you today. I went yesterday with no luck and due to company Christmas party last night I was too tired to even think about it. I preface tired because i chose to limit my drinks to one an hour. I quickly became the over seeing person for about 7 ladies which seem to be walking, giggling zombies. By the time i got everbody at home was near the time i typically start to head out to hunt.
You and I are in the same boat this year. It seems the numbers have not showed up yet that allows a solid day or morning to shoot. I actually am thinking of hanging it up till January.

Regards,
Kristan

Yep, its now slim pickins here.
The "calendar birds" have been hammered for two weekends and even the redheads are spooky. They are all bunched up in big flocks, sitting on open water.
No scaup and hardely any buffies down on the salty water today. The place I hunted today used to be a milk run for 2 redheads, 2 or 3 scaup and filling out the limit with buffies.
But we just don't have the numbers and haven't for the last 3 years down there.
Hooded mergies were all I got.

I'm going to keep at it on the weekends but I'm not going to burn any vacation days until we get a major cold snap.

Nice photo!
They make good jerky. But that's about the only way I like them.

I can't carry vacation so I had to waste it all, I wish I could have kept it for January.

Sounds like you need a scull boat or a layout

I was wondering how you were making out. My season has started out slow mostly because I've lost access to everything I've hunted the last few years. One trip to the coast and it wasn't a bust but it was surprising how few birds were there.

I'm not going to throw in the towel but I am also not going to waste any vacation days until we get a big cold front.
Forecast the rest of this week is miserable, lows in the upper 50s/low 60s, highs in the upper 60s/low 70s.
Not ducky weather for sure.

Nice photo!

Save those flank feathers from the drakes! Better than wood duck for fly tying, in my opinion. Your angler friends will be happy to have them.
