BANDED IN JAPAN?????

Pretty Cool. That duck was wore out after all those miles or he went up into the atmosphere and rode the winds.
 
After I read this I told my wife. Her response along with being impressed with the distance was, and they (US Gov.) doesn't seemed to be worried to much about "Bird flu" affecting our bird population. Just some food for thought.

Cool, I'd rather have that one band then a whole lanyard full from park geese. Bet they could get a lot for it on ebay. :-(
It's almost surprising that more drake pintails don't show up from western asia. Well I bet a lot do but who knows how much banding they do. I wonder how many Alaskan pintails end up in Japan, China and Siberia.

As far as the bird flu there isn't much the government can do. They still test all fall. I know SD did a lot and I assume many other states did also. Don't know what they will do when one tests positive but I guess it's nice to know.

Great Story!
There are not many hunters in Japan but from what I have learned, the duck hunting can actually be pretty good for the few people who go through the long process to purchase and shotgun and get a hunting license.
When I was in Japan visiting my wife family, we went on a trip along the NW coast, west of Tokyo. I saw lots of ducks on the rivers and marshes. Also, when in Hokkaido, I saw sea ducks along the rocky coast. Then I met an old duck hunter when we by chance stopped in his restaurant on a small island the way from Hiroshima to Shikoku. He had two beautiful drake Eura-Asian Wigeon mounted under glass and Golden Pheasant on the wall. He said the hunting there was good in the cold years.
Maybe some day my wife & I will move to her home country and I can be the only dot in Japan on the DHBP map!
 
Duck hunters are duck hunters where ever you go. I'm sure if it was still the season when I was there, I would have gotten an invite to go!
