Bankes/TDB seating question

I have a friend who has bought a Bankes 17' Freedom. Curious what you fellow owners of this open floor space boat use for seating? I have installed floor mat material. I like the idea of a fold up chair, to be able to have room when setting decoys, or taking the chair from the boat to hunt a pocket and sit in vegetation.
Something stable for the run out, and relatively comfortable to wait for birds.
Fall is in the air this past week in N. Michigan. Just grilled my last package of mallard breasts last night, so it's time to harvest some more.

I bought a seat for my otter stealth1200, has storage, fold down padded seat and swivels. Also use shackle bucket with seat topper.

Probably a matter of preference. I like the 5 gallon bucket seats. For me, easier to stand up and shoot. If I get into a folding chair, I can't move fast enough, because I sit so deep. Try both and see what works for you.

Best,
Steve

Same here, I find the standard 4-legged folding chairs too deep to stand up easily to shoot. Used one once and that was enough.
But they are very stable for the ride.
I wonder if you put a good stiff throwable cushion in it to sit on & get a little higher if it would work better?
That way you can be stable while riding but sit higher while hunting.
I'm gonna test that this weekend!

I hunt out of a DuckBoss 15 with the similar open floor plan style. I have 5 gallon buckets that I have affixed plastic boat swivels and the standard padded green folding boat seats. The plastic swivels are nice because they are quiet and will not rust. They also add a little height to the bucket. Being taller, this makes it nicer for me as I don't feel like my knees are in my chest.

The padded seats fold down which makes them easy to store when the boat cover is on for transport.

Thanks and keep the ideas coming. There's never a perfect fit. Too high a profile, not stable in rougher seas, too low to get up and shoot. Comfort...is that possible when duck hunting. (ha) That's why I'm asking the guys who are "field testers".

Phil, Like the 7 gal but usually I don't see to many of them in the paint biz.

But as to running the boat I'm usually standing or sitting on the rear gunnel. My gunning partner Rick's sits on the bucket behind the curtain. If rough both run standing up at slower speed.

Always get compliments on these Wise seats from the clients. Save your back and very comfortable

These work slick. I have one and use it a lot. Just enough back support.

i use one of these with my DB15, but I did not like the seat so I replaced it with a different seat. I like being able to stuff a dry set of clothes or coat in the bottom.

I use a shower seat designed for seniors. It is made out of aluminum tubing with a molded seat and backrest. The legs are adjustable for height and the feet have a rubber cup so they don't slide.

Bill,
Hey, who told you I was over 62!! I suppose I also get a toilet chair too.

Thanks guys....all suggestions appreciated.

I have a freedom and I have three of the six gallon buckets with seat tops on them. The 6 gallon buckets are a couple of inches higher and more comfortable.

I'll second the shower seat idea. I've been using one for a couple years. Mine doesn't have a back though. Might have to look for one like that.

I switched over to TRIPOD folding chairs with backrests. Makes it really easy to stand & drop back my foot as I come to a shooting position, something that was always problematic with the 4 legged folders. + Used SxS in a TDB 14 they make a big difference. Might want to consider it.

I've had a DW 17 since 02 and tried several different seating arrangements. By far the best in my boat has been these, I think there are several manufacturers of identical seats. They support your back just enough so you can be comfortable sitting for long periods. Downside is $.

William-

I really like your shower seat idea. I would have never thought about that one. A quick search in Google provided this pretty cheap solution from Walmart:

That is a lot less expensive than the folding boat chairs that I bought and the leg height is adjustable. A good plastic primer and some Krylon camo paint for plastic would make that a pretty good deal for a duck boat. Kind of wish I saw this before I made up my buckets and chairs.
