I am planning on wiring running lights and a 12volt plug in my BBSB. How many amp per hour battery should I get. I won't be using the plug for a spotlight just for mayby a cell phone charge for safty and just to have in case. I see on ebay they go from 4aph and up what is a good middle of the road. Thanks

I put a 12aH in mine, it is roughly 4" x 4" x 6". mine has been charged 1 time when I got it. LED lights for Nav and under deck. I would suggest at least 7 or 8 aH, the difference in price or size was nil so I went with the 12aH. I think I paid $13 delivered when I got mine.

eBay, new with 2 year warranty.... though do a search, so guys mentioned where to get them for free as they get automatically replaced for UPS units? Looking now oneBay, I see them for $23 shipped..... in 12aH

Yepp I see em thanks dave I found a 18aph for $35.00 shiped also that might be over kill the 12 will do thanks

Nothing like a classic BBSB with a cell phone jack. Guess that makes it not so classic. Hahaha

LED navigation lights, under deck lights too! New 15hp outboard, epoxy and fiberglass, stainless steel screws, 3M 5200..... I gave up on classic a long time ago! Plastic hulled shells, neoprene and gortex.... we are so far from classic! The BBSB still looks pretty though, and the style is right.

Well I shoot a Browning A5 Magnum, designed in 1898, patent in 1900 so I feel that is fitting on my BBSB.... I am guessing mine was built in the 1930s.

Chris,

Actually Charlie D. is right, sneak boxes don't need batteries. Sneak box lights do need batteries. Also sneak boxes (or any other small private boats) don't need lights,,,,, as long as you are operating during daylight hours.

Only when operating during certain hours (night time) does a boat need lights and even then the light is what needs a battery not the boat. :>) :>)

I used a lawn "tractor" battery from walmart the last 3 years. THink it was like $15 from Walmart. plenty of power to start my 18hp and run the FF, lights, etc..
But the small sealed batteries are lighter and appear to be just as cheap these days.

In my 15 years of duck hunting, I have NEVER seen a NJ State Trooper on the water, be it the bay OR the river, at 4-5am checking duck boat lights. Hell, when I was in the Coast Guard I never saw the State guys on the water before 7am. This will be my first year with running lights, and I prob won't even use them half the time.

That is a risk I will not take.
Not only is running without lights illegal, its unwise and dangerous.
Your lights are for others to see you.
Three times I have almost collided with other boat that did not have lights on. All three times these boats were stopped or idling, with no lights on and did not hear me approaching.
One time, because of pecular lighting conditions, I came within 10' of another boat before I saw them. Luckily I was moving at a safe speed, barely on plane and avoided the collision. If I had not slowed down, who knows what would have happened.
Is that a risk you really want to take?

Carl is absolutly right about the dangers of running with out lights. I too came upon an anchored boat, in the middle of the channel, with no lights on, not even an anchor light. Why anyone takes that risk and in the process puts others at risk, is inexcusable.

The clamp ons do the trick if you feel the need. I use a headlamp when I run the boat in the morning. I have only seen one sneakbox with running lights on it. It was a all glass "Highlands" box.
