black ducks

A few more completed this morning, carved synthetic tupelo, double flocked and ready to hunt. Brown flocking over black rustoleum oil based enamel.

Those are real pretty looking birds. Especially the sleeper.

I really like that pose myself. I've done it a couple of times on mallard hens. One of them has the bill buried and the other like the black duck a little more slid off the front with the bill showing. I'm a big fan of sleepers with some locations we hunt and certain species.

This one is all cork other than the tail insert.


this one is a burlapped foamer mallard hen and was the one I used for a reference when carving the black duck sleeper. This one is about 20 years old, I've learned to remember to close the eyes since then.

I'm fortunate that way, it's about all I do, never had a "real job" since about 1982.
