Picked up my 1982 Smokercraft 14 Voyager today!
Has a practically new 2003 Merc 25hp 2 stroke on it, with a nice trolling motor, 2 batteries, fishfinder, clamp on lights, 12v outlet, life jackets and a cover.
Hull is in excellent condition for its age. A few scrapes in the paint here & there, but otherwise in great shape. Boat came down from Indianna back in the 90's. The father-in-law of the guy I bought it from was the orginal owner. It was given to the son-in-law in 2002 and that is when he put the Merc on it, probably hasnt been run 40 hours since he bought it. Neither the hull or motor have ever been in saltwater.
Trailer is OK, its painted. With our salty environment, I will be happy if it last 2-3 years, then I will get a galvanized.
The floor & casting deck in it weigh a ton, I bet there is easily 100+ pounds of wood in the boat. Before duck season, both will come out. The casting deck will get kept and stored for fishing season. The floor will get replaced with either lighter wood or an aluminum floor.
Clamp on lights will get replaced too.
Overall, I am happy so far, boat is a little longer & a lot wider (52" floor vs 40" on the old one) and a lot deeper than my old boat. Plus the wide open layout is really going to nice.
And an added bonus is that as of right now, other than the money from selling my 1440 mv and my 4 River layout, the only cash I have in it is one tank of gas in the truck. Not bad for a bigger boat and an engine that is 5 years newer and bigger than my old Nissan 18.
This pic is from the add, havent downloaded mine yet.

Congrats on finding a boat. It's been quite the search. It's nice that it has a newer motor. Have fun working on it.

Thanks!
An actually, the floor width is 52", making it a full 1' wider than my old boat. Even the narrowest part of the floor by the front bench is 48" wide.

Hot damn, Carl! Its gotta feel good to finally find the perfect boat:) You did it right by searching high and low for the right one. Now you can sleep well at night and not suffer from buyer's remorse because you know that you put the time and effort in the search. Actually, I did enjoy following along the with your search.... Nice job. That Smoker will be smokin' with a 25 HP on her, hehehe.

Guys said it did over 25mph according to GPS. Once I lighten things up, I think it will do more than that!

With my wife leaving and a family/Business trip right after she gets back, it will probably be April before I get it in the water. Fish should be biting then.

my buddy got a 16 foot smokercraft alaskan for $1,500. Its nice and perfect for duck hunting and tending decoys & sinkbox here at home. But great on Lake Ontario & the Niagara River for seaducks. Its nice and deep and perfect for 3 guys. It got me looking and hard to find Smokercrafts over here.

Carl~Carl~Carl, ya did it wrong. Don't ya know your suppose to keep the search going til Sept. panic buy a boat cause time is running out. Throw a blind on it finnishing up the night before season opens. Find out the second hunt this is not what ya need or want~~ then start planning to do it all over next year! ;>) Just kiddn! Conn grats looks like ya got a good one~~ Enjoy it.

Way to go Carl. Patience pays off sometimes. Looks like a good rig. Have fun fixing her up to be your own.

Take care,

Ed L.

Carl! Great job finding that boat. You have to be the most patient guy I have ever known. Any time you can go up in lenght and width is always a good thing. It makes so much difference. Have fun and keep us posted on the progress.

Carl, you got it bad Man! Stopped at rest stop and took pics of boat you were towing? wow, guess you did finally find the one you wanted:) I can relate, when I catch myself staring in rearview mirror while towing my boats.LOL Do deer hunters stare at deer stands? I doubt it.

Well, actually I stopped to pee (and check the bearings) but since the boat was in good light in the middle of a parking lot, I took some pics!
And yes, I catch myself watching my boat in the rearview mirror too.
