Building a boat from a mold question

I have a good friend who does fiberglass work mostly repair work. He has a mold for a 10' sneak box that's almost 4' wide. We would like to build a boat from the mold but not sure of the layup of cloth it should consist of. As of now we were thinking gel coat 6oz cloth 24 Oz woven then 1708 on top of that. I looked online and it seemed most everything was for a 24' boat. Has anyone ever built one do we need to include a layer of mat. Ok thanks I actually have a guy who says he has a duck machine mold he would sell me. Maybe I and out of touch but I see less and less sneakboxes.
 
I know nothing about laying up fiberglass but that is a cool looking mold!
Do you have the top deck mold too?

Yes I have a top deck well technically it's the glass guys now. Hopefully someone gives me some
Clue if they have done it because it's about $700 in glass now to roll the dice. Also while I'm asking has anyone seen a boat like this in production I know it's hard to tell from the mold.
 
I can get a a picture of the top they are stacked up right now. It's 10' long 44 inches wide on the floor and about 10" On the sides with a 2 inches of crown.
 
I?ve toyed with the idea of building a plug, and mold and making a couple boats but have never done it. From what I researched, you?d want gelcoat/csm/1708/csm/1708/csm. And use vinylester resin to be compatible with csm but stronger than polyester. Problem is it has a short shelf life (about 3 months) so once you buy it you have to get to work.

If you want to use paint instead of gelcoat, do 2 layers of csm first then the rest of the schedule with 1708 and csm. Csm can be sanded, and faired to smooth if you chose to do so.
 
Yes, fiber glassing can be expensive. I am building an 18 ft fishing boat and am into it for about 8,000. Thats just the hull. I just turned it over on Tuesday. Now I start on the inside. The only thing I can tell you is don't skimp on the materials. Use good stuff and your boat will outlast you. Cheap it out and it will all turn to junk before you know it. One thing some guys forget is pride in workmanship. Use plenty. Good luck with your build. There is just something about building a boat. All the curves and details... its a challenge we should all experience at least once.
