Cheap skeet loads

I bought a case of Dynamit Nobel #9 skeet loads at such a low price I wondered if they would even go bang. Shot a round or two of skeet with them the other day and now I'm laughing out of the other side of my mouth. Lotsa puff balled skeet targets, no missfires and smooth ejection. No I didn't go to the pattern board with them but I recommend them based on cost alone as they are way cheaper than I can reload. They look a lot like a Federal shell and have a plastic base wad. Don't know if there is any reloading data on them but they are so cheap who cares.

Keep shooting after the season is over,
Harry

On the way back from dropping my son at school a few weeks back (BGSU), I treated myself to a stop at Jaqua's in Findlay, OH to stroll through the gun shop (anyone for a pair of Boss round body SXS's at $79,000 ea.?). Lots of great guns to look at there.

Have to admit that when I saw the price on a 25# bag of lead shot ($45 ea; $40 each of you bought more than one), I about had a heart attack. Guy at the counter was telling me about the continuing run on ammo. Made a second stop at Olde English Gun Shop in Tipp City, and the sign on their front door stated that ammo purchases were limited to 3 boxes of any one caliber. Explanation was that people who were hogging up were keeping others from being able to get certain types of ammo.

I STOPPED RELOADING 12 AND 20 GA TARGET LOADS A COUPLE YEARS AGO,WHEN SHOT GOT SO HIGH.WAS ABLE TO BUY AT WALMART AROUND $5 A BOX.BUYING THROUGH A GUN CLUB IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO FOR COMPONENTS.PRIMERS ARE THE HARDEST TO GET,MAINLY RIFLE AND PISTOL.DOESN'T SEEM LIKE TOO MANY YEARS AGO WHEN YOU COULD LOAD A BOX OF TARGET LOADS FOR $3.20.NO PISTOL PRIMERS AT MIDWAY AND I CAN;'T FIND A GUN SHOP ANYWHERE, THAT HAS THEM.

Hi Harry. Not to hijack your thread, but your comments on cheap shells reminded me of something that happened to my father last year. He bought a 100 pack of 12 ga. Winchester shells from WalMart last year to use at a skeet shoot. My nephew had bought a 100 pack of 20 ga Win. shells also. They had many failure to ejects with that 100 pack. I'd say fully a third of the shells would not eject.

In talking to him about it over the phone, I asked him to go dig through his stash of 3" shells and compare the rim profile of the cheapy shells to the rim profile of the 3" shell. Sure enough, the cheapy shells didn't have a flat for the extactor to grab onto, they had what could only be described as a slope from the edge of the rim to the brass part of the shell.

I don't know this as a fact, but I'm guessing that as bad as WalMart squeezes vendors to cut prices, Winchester probably sent some of their "2nd's" to WalMart to meet the price point.

A little over $5 per box Nick. A buddy of mine in the gun business ordered them and i don't know where he got them from. I also just recieved some 20 ga. Federal tgt 9's from able arms that were around $6 a box when bought by the case. Ordered them online.
12 ga. stuff is about the same. 28 ga and 410 bore are prohibitively high and even with the high price of components it'll be cheaper to reload for them.

So I'll not be shooting a lot of 410 and 28 for awhile.

Happy shopping,
Harry
