Christmas is coming and I'm freaking out!

I NEVER know what to buy my wife for Christmas. I walked every aisle at Canadian Tire yesterday and all I picked up was a baker's apron. What the heck do you get the woman who has everything? I buy her chocolates, she doesn't eat them cuz she's on a diet. I bought her diet Coke, she's mad because she thinks I think she's fat. I bought her a tool box once with lots of good stuff in it and she was not impressed. Last year I got her some nice jewellery but she doesn't wear it because shiny things make the little kids crazy at school. Honestly, when you've been with someone for almost 20 years there's nothing left to give them that they don't already have. Am I wrong? What are you guys getting your wives, girlfriends, mistresses, or whatevers ? : )

mike we take the practical approach now.

bought my wife two pair of Marino wool long underwear. its winter you know!

I suspect I'll get arrows or something else I need and would be buying anyway.

Buy her an experience - ski trip, spa day, concert tickets, island get-away;) Just listen to her dreams....and good luck!

I hate to say this but at this point you are out of luck for this year. The trick is trying to pay attention when she says what she wants all next year, and remembering to buy her that stuff around Christmas time. Good luck next year, and if you really need something go on priceline and book a quick cheap weekend vacation for just the two of you.

Mike, While she's out go get her make up bag and write down brand names and colors. Find the shampoo bottle/body wash she uses, then go buy it . Put it in her stocking she will be surprised .

My wife and I have given up trying to surprise each other with anything costly. I guess it's not romantic, but every year we set a limit, and each of us picks something we really want or need under that limit. This year I get new wading boots; she gets a goretex rain jacket. We'll enjoy them together come June. Last year we spent more--she got a camera lens, I got a fly rod.

We also set a limit for a "stocking" gifts, and on those we get more or less creative.

I bought her a new Sitka parka for me so I don't freeze to death and she loses her source of income and a new Beretta for me so I can feed her.

We take a similar approach and set a limit and provide a few ideas. It works for us that way we get things we want yet are not sure what the other picked.

Funny how women don't want appliances or stuff that helps them around the house, yet guys do. Chainsaw, tractor, tools = yup. Vacuum, pots/pans, dish washer = nope.

Mike my friend...

I know what she wants. Show her some appreciation. I tried that with my wife AND WAS AMAZED at the results.

Unfortunately I'm not exactly sure what I did that made her feel that way, so I'm unable to repeat it. I am going to continue experimenting with trial and error. If I detect ANY patterns I will report them immediately.

Hell, I might even find an answer, bottle the formula, and sell it you guys...

I hear you Mike! After 18 years I still have to get ideas from my wife. If I guess on my own there's a good chance she won't use it.

Some good ideas there fellas! I think boat cushions would be an excellent gift for anyone.

I got her a little microwave to keep in her classroom so she can heat up her soup, and I'm going to book her a 1 hr massage which is ingenious (thanks Dave) because our extended health benefits will pay for it! Not that I'm cheap, but you know when you are a family its hard to be generous and responsible to the budget at the same time.

No island get away this year, but maybe I can take her to our cabin. Its always nice to be out there near the winter solstice, lots of lazing around and eating chocolate things. If its clear the stars can be amazing, and with sundown around 4 pm you don't even have to stay up late to see it.

Who says you can't get good advice from the internet!?

Thanks, and Merry Festivus to all you guys,

Mike
