CHURCH DECOYS

Kris, is the stuff in parentheses to mean that you have a sheet of WILEY cork, as opposed to stuff from Willy?
Regarding the black cork--yep, it is lighter, in all likelihood, it requires a bottom board to protect it from chipping, not only from use, but also from wrapping lines, it was used for MANY years, until the tan-WILEY) became a sound choice---Now that Wiley has been gone for a while, ,best thing for folks to do is use what sends shivers up their legs! Everything now available requirews sealing to prevent problems!
Have fun, doing what you are doig
Regarding the heads, did you buy the molds for the Herter heads? They certainly resemble that style, for sure.!

Wow did I ever open a can worms with this thread huh? Thanks all -especially to you Dave for all your positive comments!!! I will be ordering a couple of black ducks from you this weekend. With all this commotion I've stirred up the least I can do is give you some business. I appreciate the offer of the free decoy but I'd prefer to pay. Thanks again for all the input.

Greg, You did exactly what you should have done.......ask questions. More importantly, ask the people on this website that know. I have only been a member for a day and can tell that these folks know there stuff.......they might not be familiar with Church Decoys just yet, but I' ll give them some time and won't hold it against them. Look forward to doing busines with you Greg.......just drop me line on my website. DC

I bought some H.Hammond decoys (Middletown DE) that look very similar. They are all 30 plus years old and are holding up well. I did replace the heads last year with wooden heads.
My brant and teal are also black cork and came from Virginia, I think it was Stoney Creek decoys.
I just handle them with care and don't treat them like my Quack or GHG decoys.
Dave I like the look, but you know what they say about beauty being in the eye of the beholder....
Welcome to the site.

Hey Dave, I used to carve with some guys from around your area. Some good carvers in that neck of the woods around Easton, Havre De Grace, Dunkirk. I used to live in Southern Maryland for many yeras and my in-laws had a beach house in Lewis Delaware so I got to hunt the bay and the Eastern shore quite a bit. It's amazing watching the snows come into Delaware. The Chesapeake Bay style has always been one of my favorites, but growing up in Illinois makes me like the Illinois/Mississippi style. I guess I am all over the map. I like to make them simple and easy to touch up. They work very well from what my customers tell me. Thanks for the welcome. DC

Bang up job Mr. Church. Your responses to some criticism have been VERY professional, I look forward to your contributions to the forum.

Mr. Church,
I too would like to commend you for your reaction to this thread. I am a lot more hot tempered and fear I would have reacted much worse to some of the criticism. It says a lot about your character, you seem like a stand up guy. Shawn

Thanks Lou, I have always been a silent fan of your painting. I even figured if I sold enough dekes and ate enough black cork dust that I could one day give you a call and order one of your sneak boat kits. Not quite there yet, better go make myself another cork dust sandwich. Thanks again

Cool. ;) Also, thanks much for your service to our County with your time in the Navy.
I like folks who stand behind their product and know how to work with people. I'm impressed. If you're interested, we can swap links on our websites. Either way, if it's ok with you, I'll put a link to your site on my links page and it you want to do the same.......cool.
Later,
Lou

Thanks for the great offer Lou. I would be flattered to be on your website and I have already added your site to mine. Thanks again.

Dave,
I want to pile on here since I missed the chance the last day or so..........

Welcome to the site and thanks for the careful reply. I am glad to have you aboard here and hope you enjoy our often opinionated duck hunting page.

Pot foam works great for me so anyone who wants black cork is at least a step ahead of me when it comes to the plastic vs cork fight.

Hope you sell a pile of birds for your efforts.

Have a great season.

Bob

Thanks Bob. I sure am getting a lot of hits on my website so I guess all the talk about my decoys has helped. I have never messed with Pot Foam...is that where you put the beads in a mold and then boil them to get them to expand? If so, how messy is it and how well do they hold up? Cork dust is amazing at where it ends up. My wife has just about had it with the dust that I bring inside. Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks Shawn, great looking lab. I always wanted to do a flooded timber hunt. I am in SW Missouri and just a ho skip and a jump from those Arkansas timbers.....need to get these decoy orders out and make some plans.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Dave, just how far does a "ho skip".
Make one simple spelling mistake and ......... somebody will find it. ;)
Lou

Lou, good catch. I guess the answer would be in direct correlation with the amount of money tendered for said "ho."

Something is totally wrong here. I went to the website and looked up the prostaff and the first thing that hit me was its complete lack of accuracy.
This is why:
§ No loud rock music with the required lyrics like "the bodies will hit the floor"
§ Not enough hoodies and skull caps
§ Not enough goatees and jaws full of chew
§ Where in the heck is that’s dogs face paint, don’t you know all the "pros" paint their dogs
§ Lacking goatees, at least they could have had one grubby puke with a 4 foot gnome beard.
§ Where are all the hooters chicks dressed in camo as X chromosome prostaffers - I want my advantage camo bikini back!
§ And lastly: where in the heck is the pro-staff’s lay down bus-stop blind, dontcha know cork decoys only work on route 26.

Seriously: Dave, welcome the board – we look forward to your posts and feedback on your deeks. I like seeing that young pro-staffer on there, keeps it real and aligned to the character of this board.
Derek

Derek, ya got me dead to rights. Here is the problem. I have more years in the military than I have out so it is hard for me to "let myself go." My son's hair is only as long as it is because my wife won't let me get it cut shorter. My dog is actually a Brittany Spaniel with some serious hair coloring and some touch up. The Hooters girls in the bikinis.......well, refer back to the wife thing. It's not like I didn't try. I like hard rock as much as the next guy, but I think it gives my dog gas.....at least thats what my hunting partner says when the heat is cranked up in the Jeep. Thanks for the welcome and good luck this year.

Thanks for the great offer Lou. I would be flattered to be on your website and I have already added your site to mine. Thanks again.

My pleasure, just added your site to my links page also, thanks for the exchange. Have a great weekend and an outstanding season....hunting and selling. ;)
Lou

Dave,
rip a lobster pot bouy in half and glue each flat side of the two parts to a ply bottom board....then cut and shape as much as you like... then add head and tail board if you feel like one and a keel with a weight to get a self righting action and paint....
two unsinkable decoys.

I too am very impressed with the way you responded to some of the critiques. Your decoys don't fit my taste but I'm almost inclined to buy one after reading through this thread! Good luck with future sales and the upcoming duck season.
