Finished making the turnbuttons and fitting the painted floorboards.

After that it was rigging the sail and tesing the set up. Moved boat outside of shop so the boat has seen light of day.

I was having a problem with the snotter sliding down the mast so I added a thumb cleat. I still need to tweak the rigging.

Steady east wind and 3-5ft waves made me decide to wait for better weather for initial...

Good morning, Richard~

Wonderful - congratulations!

Question: Can your dagger (scimitar?) board be set at any depth? If so, what holds it up or down. Simple friction in the lot? Leather? Spring brass?

Also - good decision to wait for calmer weather for the sea trials.

All the best,

SJS

Steve,

Unfortunately you can’t adjust the depth on the scimitar board. I was going to use a spring clamp to hold board up when not in use. Guy I knew with a 12’ melonseed did same and it worked.

Richard,

Beautiful boat and probably too late to make a change.....but you can drill a series of holes in the daggerboard through which a pin rests on the well coaming and supports it at various depth settings. That's how my family did it on boats with daggerboard wells.

SJ.

You could do that but the scimitar shape is to move the center of effort to the rear of the boat so you get a balanced helm. (at least that is what I have read) If the daggerboard were straight you could do add the pins.

Wish I had a photo. Nobody in my family was a picture taker, and I only started once I got a smart phone. A couple of the boats had a centerboard almost identical to yours. The line of holes go slightly rear of the center of the board, on a slight diagonal from top to bottom, so it remains tilted aft. The trailing edge jams against the aft bottom of the well.

Interesting idea, I have not seen that done before.
