im thinking of adding 1 confidence decoy too my spread ive thought a blue heron that i can rig too look like its on a stump coming out of my blind or a crow or two or ??? im open too suggestions also anyone ever seen a crow float and know of a place too get floating crow deeks ? ok bring on the ridicule i just cant recall seeing a crow actually floating

They float belly up...they swim pretty fast...they use their wings and make a hell of a racket just before floating...belly up.

Scott,

I have a plastic GB Heron that sits on a short metal pole...and you're welcome to it. It was successful at attracting a real heron which made quite a fuss. After seeing that, Hoss was all jazzed up. i kept it at home after that.

In the past couple of years I have had four herons land in my spread and stay for a while. The ducks gave them no notice and decoyed no better, no ducks came in while the herons where there. As a result, I have lost confidence in herons as confidence decoys.

Scott,

Here's a link to a thread I posted earlier this year. I made this egret off a pattern Steve Sutton sent me. I plan to give it a try this season to see if it helps. It will attach to a stake or a clamp on the fatboy.

i bring along me crows dekes every hunt stick them anywhere even on the duckboat or mud piles etc usualy i put one up high on shore and two on the flats or on the boat.

Just for the confusion factor.... Let me throw SWAN decoys into the mix. I have heard they work well for confidence decoys for ducks. And after seeing the canvas birds that Yukon Mike made I myself have a major lusting for a few.

I bought some crow decoys from bass pro shops, painted them like seagulls and then attached a big alligator clip to the bottom by the little post you would use to put it in the ground. I clamp them on to the top rail of my boat blind. It works great for diver hunting open water. A couple of years ago we had a bunch of seagulls hovering over our blind right when the sun was coming up and they were trying to figure us out when a small group of teal came by at about mach 3 one of them collided with a gull killing the teal dead as a door nail. It was kind of neet to see, we all just looked at each other not sure of what just happened.

I am think of making a silo of a hunter with his waders pulled down taking a leak. It should bring the bird right in.

I never used a heron decoy but had a real one try to land on my boat blind yesterday. The dog thought that was pretty fun. Although he didn know what to think about a bird THAT big.
