Confidence decoys...who uses them and what do you prefer for field and water sets

We used a heron/egret decoy this year, and it seemed to work well. We put it close to our blind. Had good decoding birds when we used it. We also used 6 giant swan decoys even when not targeting swan.

But, I can't tell what those ducks are thinking, sometimes!

Been there, done that. Frankly, I don't think it makes much, or any difference.

Put the stool where the ducks want to be and your good.

I have a pile of coot decoys I use when the gadwalls down here get hard to commit to the decoys.

A MANnican dressed like a hunter, without his gun, out adjusting the decoys[cool][cool] Always works[;)]

This! LOL

Water - Coots, Gull decoy, sometime one Swan, and GB Heron where appropriate.

Field - Swan, or huge Snow Goose decoys.

Do they work?

I dunno, I just like Decoys.

What Pete wrote is true.

Sandwich and a hot cup of coffee. Pulls them in but does not guarantee success, sandwich is usually stepped on and coffee spilled.

Or a cutout of a hunter taking a piss. Or how about a cutout of a golfer carrying his bags. No duck or goose has ever cared about me when on the golf course.

Let's hear your preference...!

Definitely plan to add a couple gull decoys to the broadbill rig. Big and white so very visible from a distance and no easier way to spot a good feed than to see seagulls snatching food from the broadbill as they surface

Agreed, if someone wants to use them for fun, then that is fine.

I would not put coot in the confidence category, though.

I'm probably over thinking it but, I put two field goose decoys out on the spit of land with black duck in the water near them. One tall century and one feeder. My theory is that the black duck see the taller goose in a position to see a threat and trust him send the alarm as they are lower and in the water.
Over thinking it, right?

Or is it the case that the birds see the larger goose from farther away? In the second case it is a regular decoy (like a coot) and not a confidence decoy.

I'm all for people using what they want - don't get me wrong. I use all kinds of crap that does little or nothing other than make me happy.

I was using a great blue heron decoy this season and placed it next to me. I dropped the post for it in the water though and that was the end of that for now haha
