Cork Gadwall Question

Hey folks! Was wanting to add some more gadwall dekes to my spread but wanted to carve them out of cork. Any of you have any patterns you would recommend to me? Also, would you use black cork or tan cork? I've carved some goldeneyes and one canvasback out of cork, but this will be my first attempt at a gadwall.

Grace and peace,

David Palmer

Hi David,

Pat Godin has great patterns for most species in his pattern books, gadwall included. Personally, I'd recommend using tan cork over the black stuff because its less messy and a better product for carving.

"Bottlecap" (tan) cork will hold up better. Someone like Willy McDonald (The Duck Blind) may be willing to do an individual cutout kit for you. You might give him a call & ask about it. I'm sure he'd have a pattern available. Another option would be to search the net for a good profile photo and draw up your own pattern.

Hey David,
I'm sure I have a block of tan cork you can have and I bet I have some type of gadwall pattern laying around. Let me try to find them and I'll holler at you in a week or so.

Take care,
Brian
