Dead calm + Jerk string ... our answer to Mojos

Bob and Dutch,

I hear you on over doing it. I generally call as little as possible to get the job done. Best call and or decoy I've found yet is the one named "location". I remember one hunt a few years back. I had my set up in a small cove off the main channel. There was another rig just 150 yards across on the other side. The three younger hunters would call constantly at anything they could see flying, didn't matter how near or far away.

Meanwhile I might give a soft quack or two to those ducks which came near enough to check my spread. I had my limit in about an hour and half. I think the three young'uns may have shot one duck. I politely suggested a change in their routine as I passed by them on my way back to the ramp. Much to my surprise the next time I saw them it seemed that they were heeding my advice.

Bob,

I swear by a jerk string when we hunt calm water or sheltered potholes. Works much better than my calling. I bought 6' of bungee from a kayak store for $0.25/ft (http://www.paddleandtrail.com/). I put a brass clip on the one end of the bungee and tied about 30 yards of braided decoy line on the other end of the bungee. I clip the bungee to a boat anchor if I am hunting out of the boat. If I walk in to hunt, I clip the bungee to a stake I push into the bottom. I just hook a decoy or two on the line and pull on it. I do not use that nice of decoy, but they still work.
