Decoy Anchors

Looking for H-style anchors. I like to wrap my line around the anchor and not the keel. I can't find them anywhere anymore. Cabelas used to have them but not anymore. Any ideas?...............Kevin

Used to buy mine at Harrys Army / Navy in NJ... haven't been there in years...

Can't find a license holder with pin or decent decoy clips. Some business ideas for people.

Trace an existing mold on a piece of oak, gouge out and do a little buffing, buy used tire weights, get a single electric burner with small cast iron skillet, and you can easily make your anchors.

I too have been using heavy H weights for years.... picked up everyone I ever found a a yard sale. But have used them all, and need more too. Larry offered me the use of his mold, and I think I found the same on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270324940433

Not quite the right shape, so I will try Larry's mold before I invest in one. If this does not work, then I will route my won ot of some oak.

Andrew,
I like the Branch line snap http://www.snlcorp.com/Webpages/longline_snaps.htm
I use the 3 inch with no problems. Esp. with single birds and a lead H I make myself using a pine 1x6 I routed the H shape into with a 3\8 straight router bit.
I also use these on long line rigs with a 20 inch dropper off the bird tied to the snap. Some guys like the bigger 5 inch, but I dont find it necessary for the line I use. The advantage to the branch line snap is that it is not pinched at the bottom but has a spring loop without a swivel which makes it way easier to open with the heavy blue gloves when you cant feel your fingers any more.

Thanks for the ebay link. That is what I am looking for. I made my own mold years ago but gave to a friend who no longer lives in the area. I was looking for the easy way out.

Can't help with a "H-sec" anchor supplier we always cast our own. I had a couple of casting parties here at the house, we made a selection of decoy anchors from 6-oz up to 8-lbs each for seaduck longlines. We have a bunch of NJ guys, my recommendation is to see if you can put to gather a casting party and see who has what for molds ladles and cast iron melting pots. Any excuse for a duck hunting related get together is a great time.

Andrew, I'll bite, what makes a good decoy clip and why can't you find one? If you remember I have pretty much eliminated my use of he long line clips by tying the droppers to the long lines and storing the decoys fully rigged (less anchors and anchor line. Saves time, money and tangles.

I found some vinyl coated H style anchors at my Bass Pro. I don't see them on their website but they are a "Redhead" brand

Kevin.
I have a mold that I made out of Cherry hardwood. The weights are what you are looking for I think. I can't post a picture here for some reason, so I sent it to your email. You can have it. Just pay me back for the shipping. Check your email. Ed Auman

I actually bought the mold to make them at the Tuckerton Decoy ($25.00)show last year.
Went to the local tire shop and asked for the old wheel weights and melted them
down.
Let me know if you need a few I make about 50 at a time and have a some extras
sitting in the garage.

Hey Ron. I think that I can find Haddon Heights easy enough. I work in Camden. Thanks for the offer..........Kevin

week before christmas at the bass pro in baltimore. think they had 10, 12 or 16oz. 12oz where like $19.99

Thanks Bob, I'll check it out. Appreciate it.

Scott, the "best" clip I've purchased is a highly visible (shiny steel) spring clip purchased at a commercial fishing store. I wish I could get a painted or bronze color clip. Moreover, I am using a thicker long line (only holds a dozen decoys) now, about 3/8ths and the click is barely attached, need a more positive hold. I like the thick line, it never gets tangled - a true joy to work with.
