Decoy Swap

I really don't like "The 'Fuge"... However, one thing I do like, is that participants in the swap are free to call out members that don't "pay up" on swap birds. So far there are at least two that have posted here that didn't get birds. I believe those that didn't fulfill should be called out. In the very least, those that didn't recieve birds should communicate with the orgainizer (Mr. Church) who they were supposed to get a bird from and that "non-paying" member not be allowed to participate again. Just my thoughts...

I would participate but I haven't completed decoy #1 yet. I am finally starting to work on something but can't say how it will look when its finished. Maybe next year I will get involved with this when I'm more sure of my abilities.

I love this idea! I'm not anywhere close to some of the really talented guys who post here, but I'll see if I can get something together once the season ends. Probably a cork and wood puddle duck of some kind. The May 1st deadline should give me enough time to try and get something worthy to trade, happy to trade with another carving newbie if necessary as well.

I am along the same lines as Darin I was in the last swap and did not receive my decoy. I have not seen the member on the boards and assume something changed and hold no ill will about it but I would want to see something put in place this time around to try and eliminate those types of things from happening again. I know last time I was late getting my bird done and out. I had great intentions on being done in time and i was probably still a month late.

If you decide to go the route of having the decoy done by the deadline and a picture submitted at that time then doing the drawing I would be willing to swap again with a cedar decoy some type of merganser. Two of my favorite decoys are from decoy swaps and I get comments on them all the time when hunting.

Everyone should have a decoy finished by the time they sign-up. Why would you want to trade the first decoy you ever make?

Post a picture of the decoy you are trading or putting up for collateral. If you finish another 'swap' decoy by the deadline, great. If you don't, send the first decoy you put up to enter the swap.

Swapping people should confirm decoys ready for shipment and ship the same day.

Theoretically everyone should get a decoy.

What about a Westlake swap in person? Eliminates any issues.

I would like to participate Dave!

I'm a beginner and I've been carving foam to start with. I can definitely make a gunner, but nothing fancy yet. I'm not much of a painter so I could provide a sealed/primed decoy so the recipient could paint it themselves if wanted.

Here are some examples of what I've done.

I would like to participate in the swap. I am a beginner but have carved 12 goldeneyes for this past season and they worked out great they are foam and burlap. I would like to try my hand at a surf scooter or a common eider for the swap or if someone would prefer a goldeneye I have a few that haven't seen the water yet. The deadline works, how does the actual swap work? Do I just post a picture of the finished bird along with any progress pics by the deadline and then names are drawn and decoys sent out? This is my first swap so I'm looking forward to it.

Alright, I hear the concern from everyone about not getting a decoy in the swap. If you are ASKING to be in the swap, you are OBLIGATING yourself to produce a decoy for the swap. The deadline is 1 April............let's have a decoy MADE and post a pic by the deadline (I posted mine today). If all decoys are made before the deadline, we will draw names early. I want this to be a smooth evolution. Once the pics are posted and the names are drawn, I will post who is sending to whom. It is then up to YOU to contact the other member and exchange addresses, etc. If everyone pays to have their decoy shipped to the recipient, it should be pretty fair. I will keep adding names to the list until we get at least 20, after that, I will only add people if I have a match (uneven numbers won't work well in a swap) and they have a decoy complete.

I thought about it and it is simple really. Your deadline is April 1. If your decoy is not done by then, you name isn't included in the swap.

Andy, I agree. The rules are that it MUST be completed by 1 April and a pic is posted. If not, your name is removed from the swap list. Andy, are you in?

Dave, for now I'm going to say Cork/basswood Hen Mallard as colateral. Only because I should have one done by the end of the week and if for some unforeseen circumstance I get nothing else done by April 1 it will be my swap decoy. But I have the bug to try some green wing teal this spring so I may change it up, if so I'll notify you of the change.

I have decided on a drake Ringer for my contribution. I did some searching on here of pics from Gary March and settled on making a pattern from this one! It will be a bobtail with the usual plastic eyes, apoxiesculpt bill, acrylics, and a trex keel with eye hook. Hopefully he won't mind! This was taken on the lake (spokane river) that we both live on I believe.
