Decoy Swap

I'm in also. I have some GWteal that haven't seen water and some nice woodies that have only hunted a couple of times if that would be okay. Should have some GE hens done well before deadline. I too am not in favor of segregating experienced from beginners. It'd be cool to have an early era decoy from someone who eventually becomes a master.

I am putting in the information next to the names regarding what people intend on building. If these are wrong, just let me know and I will correct it. I do not have any intentions of splitting up the categories by material or skill level. If you have THE bird that you are going to swap, go ahead and post the pic up. I posted a generic pic of a deke on the water, the one I send will never have been used. Once we have 4 more carvers in the swap, I will close it up. Late entries will go on a waiting list. If they complete a decoy before the deadline and we have an even number of participants, I will throw them into the mix also.

I have decided on a drake Ringer for my contribution. I did some searching on here of pics from Gary March and settled on making a pattern from this one! It will be a bobtail with the usual plastic eyes, apoxiesculpt bill, acrylics, and a trex keel with eye hook. Hopefully he won't mind! This was taken on the lake (spokane river) that we both live on I believe.

Made some patterns from Gary's photo and got them transferred to the foam. The two body patterns will get glued together and then the side profile drawn on. I will cut both profiles at the same time on my hot wire bandsaw. I still have to cut a head pattern out of hardboard for the sandwich head too. I will keep posting pics as this progresses so you guys can see how this thing is made.

Welcome Dani, don't try to swap out those "big butt" waders of yours.

Steve,

I can post a picture for you if you send it to my email. Click on my name and my profile will popup. My email is in my profile.

I know I don't post on here very often but I lurk around several times per week. I do most of my posting on another site. I am working on a couple mallards currently and will be cutting out some more today or tomorrow with intentions of more mallard and wood duck feeding poses. I have participated in a couple swaps on other forums and would love to be in this one. My birds will be hollow bass with bass heads painted with acrylics. I'm having some surgery done in a couple days and will have a week of sitting around to work on some paint.

Let me know if I'm in or out. No hurt feelings either way.

Dave,

As I've mentioned, I have some Golden Eyes just finished I would swap....BUT....I'm working on trying my hand at a few woodies. IF I can come up with a woody worthy of the swap, I might swap that instead of the GE. Either way I WILL have a bird ready for the swap. Woody will also be hollow cedar.

Dave

Cool, Thanks.

Just had a little procedure done on my heart and will be off work for the next 10 days or so and plan on knocking some decoys out. Should have pics up soon.

Dave,
Here is my completed bird. Had her sitting for quite a while so I put some paint on her along with all the others over the last couple weeks. Ill be sure to pad weight her and add a leather loop before its sent out.

Had a minute today to work on my offering for the swap. Roughed it out and glued the head on. Lots more shaping to do, then sand it smooth, and on to burlap.

Was 42* here in Michigan so I worked in the garage a bit and then started on my bird. I found some cork and basswood so that's what I am using. I tried to maximize the size of the cork and basswood and ended up with a little bit of a small head for the body but it doesn't look too bad. It's a Scaup, but needs a little more neck blending and some clothes.
