Devlin bluebill build thread.

Aluminum plate is not all that expensive. McMaster Carr and, believe it or not, ebay seems to have some good prices on that sort of stuff.

I have always used 3/8" ply painted. I don't want to have to screw anything into the hull. I have had 5200 fail on me a few times and I am not happy with it to seal out a screw hole to hold a aluminum or stainless plate down to the hull. The motor will also move around on a metal plate so the wood that is just glued works great. The motor will bite into the wood and not your hull.

Don't remember, your not using rollers for the trailer are you? Worst invention ever made. Unless you are a fiberglass repair man.

What I rigged up with cow mats and some polyurethane glue.

Paul~

Great job - I'm sure it'll give you the needed protection.

BTW: I was on Long Island this past week and was in my old "boat stuff store" (Bargain Bilge in Patchogue) - and, sure enough, hanging there for sale was a transom pad made by Moeller. You saved $40 with those stall mats.

All the best,

SJS

Good to know! Thanks for the idea in the first place Steve, I will let know how they work out.

Well with season coming to a close - I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who added their valuable input and helped me through the build process. The payoff was wonderful, hunting out of a boat I built with my own two hands was something no one will be able to take away.

I will be making a spray shield and some sort of cockpit cover for next year. That will be posted in this thread as well.

Thanks again! (Ps - the only limit I shot this year was in the bluebill!)

Way to go Paul. The satisfaction of hunting out of your own boat is immeasurable - eh? Maybe one day we can get a few Devlin's together for a hunt like Tom and I did in Oct.

Been talking with Tom S lately - got me thinking about this project and how instrumental it has been in shaping my life (I know that's a bit melodramatic) and my ability to face challenges and just get to work figuring them out. One problem at a time.

Thanks Tom S for helping me get started.

Paul, Thanks for the kind words, it has sincerely been my pleasure. Good things need to be shared. We will hunt together again.
