Family Hunt

Just got back from a waterfowl hunt in Manitoba with my 79 yr old dad and 27 yr old son. It was simply fantastic just to spend quality time with them!! I have gone up to the same area of Manitoba for the last 10 years and at the same time period(second time with my dad and my son combo) and without a doubt saw the most ducks of any of those 10 years. I typically focus on geese, but decided to give the ducks a whirl a couple of our three hunts. Limited on ducks day 1, geese day 2, and did a combo hunt day 3 with 11 each geese and ducks. Pics from our combo hunt then goose hunt.IMG_1279.jpg

Blake,
Your dad is a real trooper! Our family is headed for Saskatchewan on Friday. Nothing against geese, but we are just focusing on ducks. What is the sitrep at the border; feathers on/feathers off? My wife really prefers skin on for cooking.

We did not bring any back--the farmers and some of their family members wanted the birds.

That sounds like an awesome trip. And super cool that you, your dad and your son got to hunt together.

How'd you find crossing into Canada? I have a Nova Scotia trip next week--and it finally rained, so some salmon may be on the move! I've been hearing that Canadian border officials have been grilling Americans pretty hard and there have been some delays in crossing as a result.

We crossed the border last night at Pembina ND and found the Canadian border officials courteous and friendly as always. The only trouble we've ever had was coming back to the US. They sometimes act like you described and we are the foreigners.

Jeff - We crossed the border at Pembina ND too. Border officials were great both during the typical questions while you in your vehicle as you enter into Canada as well as the processing of the firearms declaration form inside the crossing. We have crossed there about 5 or 6 times now and have never had any issues going into Canada or coming back across to the states.
