Favorite picture from this season

Tom, one of these years we need to do a DHBP hunt up in north AL. Maybe next year?? We can get Thomas to show us around since he is now a better duck hunter than our beloved founder!

A awesome afternoon teal hunt with a newly acquired friend and a solid hunt for my pup.

My first carved decoy, a friends carved decoy, and a wood carved which I bought from a pawn shop in a small town in Montana while I was on a fire assignment

I have many more which I enjoy, but these have been my favorites so far. Still have a hand full of hunts left.

I have never carved decoys but I've had these two Cans sitting on my office shelf for years. They belonged to my dad who passed away 16 years ago January 1st. My dad was born in 1918 and grew up hunting Northern MI as a child. I continued that tradition with him up until 1984, I moved away to go to college, married and never moved back to MI. Our hunts were few and far between over the next 16 years.

This season I decided to blow the dust off these blocks and float them while on a trip with my two sons. Even tho the Bulls didn't cooperate my sons were still able to harvest a couple of Cans over my dads old decoys. I plan on doing this again.

Great photos you guys! I didn't take very many this season, but here are a few that stood out-

My dog Sage watching bluebills swim around in the decoys-our scaup season closed the day before this photo

Second to last bird of the season, shot with 4 minutes left in the year-I ended up shooting a drake ringer right at the last minute-what a great way to end the year!

I have one week left to hunt in Idaho, hopefully there will be a few photos to add!

This is now one of my favorites. Great photo, amazing story.

Hard to have one favorite picture. How about a couple because there is a crazy story that goes with it?

I was hunting with a couple other members here and my eldest son. It was a good day but I was letting my son and guests take the first crack at birds. We had a good shoot going but some how a small group of canvasbacks came through the decoys and only one of the crew got any shots off and the flock flew on. A while later I noticed a gull swoop in and land on the water and sure enough there was a nice dead bull canvasback riding the tide out. My old lab made a nice blind retrieve on the uneaten but dead bull. A while later a single hen canvasback came in and landed on the edge of the decoys. All of us identified it as a hen and that one of its legs must be broken cause it was hanging under the flying bird. I assumed it was a cripple from the previous pass and decided to kill it instead of leaving the cripple hen to swim off and die. So I water swatted it and sent the dog. When the dog returned I picked it up and realized there was a large freshwater mussel clamped on its big toe and we had seen that dragging and not a leg.

Here is a close up. That blood was from the shell was cutting the bird.

My favorite single picture was the barn wall after a few buddies spent a few days hunting with me. I think we wore out all three dogs during the hunts.

And last but not least, my 2 year old grandson came to visit. And upon walking into my house and shop he said "Papa likes quack-quacks". He loved going through the boat and looking at all the decoys.
