My first attempt at carving a duck head.....its a BWT destined for a sleeper or preener pose. Its needs some more work but i wanted to show somebody....

where is all the blood all my decoy heads for several years were covered in blood.

looks like a good start to a never ending journey

It's pretty exciting when you hack out your first head and suddenly you realize "Hey! I can do this." When the first duck banks hard towards your creations, drops the landing gear and deploys the leading edge slats...it will become an illness. I have found no cure for this. First you carve a half dozen, then another dozen, then more dozens....then hundreds. Good start. Don't forget to let us see the finished product.

Thanks guys.......i have made wooden fishing lures, native american stuff for rendezvous', and other crafts but this was definitely a "i can do this" moment....

Tom, most of the work was done without sharp tools so thats why no blood was spilled....lol....it will happen though, i have enough scars to prove i am capable.....

Hey Mark...looking good. You keep cranking away and you'll have a whole rig WE can hunt over this fall....LOL

Just think Mark, if you attach a wood dowel to the neck you will "kinda" have a pickleweed!
I'll bet you are darn excited about this. Congratulations. I will look forward to seeing what the finished product will look like.
Good luck!
Al

Heck, Mark, I already see by the toothbrush that you're on the way to spatter painting that bad-boy! How can you go wrong?!

Al, never know....my first attempt might look more like a pickleweed than a gunning decoy....lol

Bob, that's my bench brush. Might be a bit big for splatter painting. I used to do that with my airbrush back when I used to paint fishing lures for money. I might have to break that "tool" back out one day.... ;~)

Do you have any pics of your fishing lures? I tried making a few a little while back and they're in the unfinished project pile. You know....that pile is the bigger pile....ummmph

It looks like you're on the right path. Make sure you share the final product.
