First Hunt out of the BBIII

Finally got some time to get out and hunt out of the BBIII yesterday. I had to break about 1/4" of ice in the AM to get to the spot I needed to be for the SW wind and the birds were flying all morning until the dropping tide forced me out. I sure need some practice shooting from the sitting position....BAAAAAD..!!! I should have had my limit by 8:00 but thats not whats its all about anyway. I had a great day and the ducks had NO idea I was there. The season here goes until the end of January, so there will be plenty more chances to improve my shooting skills:)

Well at least it is a start! A bit of advice; I like to position myself so that I am facing about 45 degrees away from the sweet spot in my decoy spread. With me being right handed that puts the sweet spot off my left shoulder for the best "swing" with my gun.

Your boat is looking mighty fine.

Charlie,
Congratulations on getting the boat out for its first hunt. It must have been very rewarding to finally get some blood on the deck.

Have a great season!

Nice to get out there, and the pair of birds is just a bonus. Shooting from the sitting position always makes it interesting. It takes a while but eventually it falls in place.

Boat looks great.

Hope this isn't hijacking the thread (I'm fairly confident it's related):

It appears that's natural saltmarsh grass you folks have used, which seems like the most effective way to blend in with the real grass.

If so, can anybody give me an idea as to how long to expect it to take to grass up the boat in that manner? My boat seems like it will adapt well to this technique. In that vein, a few more questions:

Do you bind the grass in buches before tucking it in?

What's the best way to harvest it (just grab and break off, or do you use some type of tool)?

Can you expect it to stay in place if moving the boat to a different spot?

Can it be salvaged from day to day, or is one day of hunting all you can expect to get from it?

Thanks for any thoughts and/or suggestions, and if this offends the initial poster, I'll be happy to relocate it.

Good on Ya Charlie!

Now about the shooting.. Go to your favorite skeet range. I wouldn't pull this if the guys were shooting registered targets, but if its pratice..

Climb right into the box and plant both cheeks right in the square, load the gun and put it in your lap, call for the bird, pick her up and let fly. You will be suprised how good you can get at it in a short time.

Now on a more serious side, I takled to the guy running the range on the Ft. Safety is allways #1. No one has had a problem with it. Ah except the guys that come out with a lower score..
