First peek at Schellinger High Boat

Seen my first Roy High Boat yesterday and am interested. Have never seen one in our area of Md. before and after talking with owner found out they are built just over del. memorial bridge near one of the passengers home. For the members that own them how well can you hunt 2 men and dog from them? How does the hull hold up to breaking ice? Looking at hull design I assume they,ll scoot right along with a 25 on them but am interested in members performance reviews when loaded for hunting. Are the hull and decking on these boats all fiberglass or are they glassed over plywood? Think the one I seen was about 14' to 15' .

Terrible , don't buy one. Leave them for us Jersey guys.







Actually mines a 4 season boat. Does everything I ask it to and more.

I had a 14 foot boat built in 2010. At that time. He told me there was less than 10 around and I doubt he had done too many since that time. He was in his late 60’s then. He is probably early to mid 70’s now. I heard he goes to Florida for the winters now.
 
I know that there is a huge following in the Church of Roy and I see how and where they can be useful but I would think that the Duck Boss with a set of flapper boards would be a good alternative if Roy is no longer making any. Not trying to start any wars here. FYI I saw a Roy High Boat for sale on Craigslist in NJ recently seemed like a reasonable deal
 
I tell most guys that like my boat to look at the DB13 as they are much easier to find. Having hunted out of both the roy boat is slightly more comfortable for two guys.

I would agree with Craig! I have not been in his boat but would agree somewhat with size of cockpit. I have a DB13 and love it but... I think the DB15' is better sized overall and easier to load and hunt 2 guys and a dog. My 13 is a tight fit for all the "stuff" us duck guys like to have along when I have my son with me. However, it is easy to hide and I can hunt solo just as easy as my sneak box days of old.

Definately looking for something 2 grown men and dog can hunt from. Currently hunting a 14 ' AA Blackjack as my small boat And use both a tall blind and layout style blind on it depending on where I,m going. Just not enough room to transport decoys and dog and 2 adults in boat. Can hunt 2 adults and dog fine with my taller roll up blind but basically need a 2nd boat for decoy transport. Love the versatility of the blackjack but looked like there was a lot more cockpit space in the roy boat I saw and a little higher side. Don,t know that I,d even use the flapper board style blind as setting on a low milk crate is no longer viable with old knees!
 
Don Federanko is reworking his molds as I write this and is expecting to turn out a few 14’ boats this year. His are very similar to Roy’s with a few modifications. I’ve owned mine for about 6 years. It’s 13 years old and runs like a champ with a 40 2 stroke.
 
I hunted 2 300lb people out of mine for some time. Then the kid got old and lazy so now it's just me. I sit in it like a sneak box but sitting on a turkey chair. Can't get more comfortable than that
 
I have had the a Devlin BBII and a Knock Off TDB14 Classic. I really never liked the BBII, because it is a displacement hull... but like the BBIII. I love the TDB14 classic. Many will disagree, but I do not think a 13-14' boat is a comfortable or safe boat for 2 to hunt out of. I am not sure that I think 15' is any better. I do however think the right design of a 16-17' duck boat will hide as well as the 14'. A grassed TDB or Devlin Scaup will disappear. While I stretched my Devlin to a 17', not the 16 per plans, and changed the top deck. I think it hides, and is comfortable enough for storage under the front deck, hunt 2 and a dog, and carry 8 doz decoys (again this does not include under the front deck storage.

Hey Roy - Picked up my new to me Roy 12 foot high box yesterday in NJ. It's now in Cambridge, MD. Looking forward to hunting Fishing Bay and Deale Island this season. Found it on Craigslist. Hopefully I'll see you at the Roy Church some time.
