Free Decoys

Sorry I'm not giving any away. But I just had to tell this story. Yesterday I'm working on the Windy when my cell ringsIts from some guy talking about his fathers passing. I thought he wanted to book a burial at sea. He tells me that his dad had all these decoys and their mine for the taking, if I wanted them. When I got thru with the boat I drove 2 hours to Deer Park and was handed 18 Al McCormick Broadbills 24 of the old Herters plastic Broadbill, several paper mache mallards and a bunch of assorted plastics, 100 pouns of lead, a pair of Cabelas neoprene waders, and a 5 pound Danforth anchor. Not bad for a Sundays drive and having never met this guy.

Cap'n Jack, That sounds like a worth while drive. Post a pic of the McCormack bb's if you can. Are the Herters bluebills the smaller model 62 hard plastics with fixed heads? My dad had a big rig of those when we hunted the Fingerlakes and Ontario in the split. I was maybe 8 yo and remember every hunt. So now I collect those and if you ever want to let them go drop me a line. Thanks. - Jim Brown 315-483-3666

You went all the way out there for some decoys, and didn't swing by to drop some off by me....

Nice catch, wish I stepped into something like that, right now it's mostly chessie pooh.

Jim Thats exactly what they are Model 62 with fixed head there are some Victor Amimal Trap Broadbills Similar to the Herters but the heads are movable and the paper mache' are Ariduck General Fibre Co, St Louis MO. It was a trip well worth while. I dont think the McCormicks were ever used and there has to be 3 more somewhere, When Al made Broadbills it was 21 to a set not 18. If I can figure out how to post pics I'll get them up, but so far I cant cut it
