Fresh camo job on the Toller

what "brand" camo did you use? I have a couple boats the same size, have waffled between different grasses and products.
thanks,

Thanks for the kind words. I used a combination of natural stuff growing around my property (scotch broom, etc.), as well as lot's of Avery's Killer Weed (rafia grass). -Tom

It's actually called a 'duckhunter', and the plans are readily available - but if there is one person that has the best experience in building them, it's Brad Taylor of Toller Boatworks. He does an awesome job! Can't beat a fiberglass covered wood boat. -Tom

I have a buddy that's doing that same boat. He's got his hull scarfed and he's going to be doing some assembling this weekend. I need to get him on this site.

How do you like it? Is there anything that you would change?

Wade - the boat is great for it's purpose; like the old saying goes, not one boat does it all (good excuse to get more boats!). I love the plans for this boat - Brad Taylor has done some modifications/alterations to suit other needs, such as an 18 footer, as square back, and his very own version called 'The Hellcat'. All fun!

Bob - you bet; get them at Hope Depot.

Have fun!

I'm guessing your buddy is Rob Loften? If its him, he's spoken with me several times during the build thus far.

Thanks Tom and the boat looks great! I really like the motor cover. I'm glad that you're putting her to good use and need some pictures of birds on the deck my site!!

Again the boat looks great and give me a call sometime, as I'd love to catch up.

Tom,

Is that vinyl coated closet-organizer shelving you have your grass attached to?

Yep, I've been using the same set for about 6 years (and of course used a set on Tom's boat) and other than getting a little bent up it has worked great. It works nicely for narrow open cockpits as its relatively light weight, grass is easily zip-tied to it and it makes for an easy pop open blind.

As for attaching it, the insulated metal wire clips in 1/4" size and some bolts do the trick.

Brad,

That's a great idea! Just gave me the solution to making some doors to use on my 2-man sculler as a marsh layout.

Can you push the racks down and possibly take a pic of how you attached the racks to the boat. I previously saw that Brad does this on his DH boat. I am considering doing something like this on my BBSB.

cheers,
Mike

Mike,

Its relatively simple. I don't have an up close shot but all you do is get the 1/4" rubber insulated metal wire clips. You can find them in the electrical department at lowe's. Hold the shelving up to where you want it to fold down/rest against the coaming on the boat and mark your spots. Drill a 1/4" hole at each of these spots. Attach the clips around the edge of the shelving in the same places and stick a 1/4" bolt through the clip. Then just put a fender washer and a self locking nut on the back side. It creates a nice little hinge. You can see one here folded down.

Ahhhh, the ingenuity of waterfowlers! I love it! Great idea on the panels Brad. No problem with attatchment points that's for sure................Kevin

Actually I can't take full credit for this idea. Back on the old site I saw in the readers rigs where a gentleman had used the shelving on the edge of his armstrong blackjack, if I recall correctly, but had only used it to hold decoys on the outside of the boat. Thats what got me to thinking, hey that'd make an easy to grass blind door so I stumbled around lowes until I found my "hinge" and have never looked back.
