Glen L Marine sneakbox

I have those plans. I have had them for about nine years. I haven't built it yet. Another build has taken priority right now. If I do build a BBSB I will probably use plank construction instead though.

I think the Glen-L may be similar to the Devlin Mallard ( size and hull type) which has seaworthness spec.'s on the Devlin website. Both are displacement hulls, so they won't get on plane and will go fairly slow, but have better seaworthyness and should row a whole lot better than planing hulls.

Like water and oil don't mix, neither do small duck boats and rough seas. About the only small boat that ever came close to handling problem water is a Barnegate Sneak Box with a canvas dodger and a owener that knows what it's limitations are.

IMO most all small duck boats including the Glen-L are best suited to protected waters & marshe type surroundings where you can "put in" if things get rough. I also have a set of the Glen-L Sneakbox plans, but I think for simplicity of building I would go with the stitch-n-glue plans by Devlin.

I built one about ten years ago. Was definitely sturdy but not designed for rough waters. Strickly for the marsh and small lakes.

Mr. Parks provided world class advice re rough waters.

Devlin builds some great designs and if you research you'll note that the common experiential theme from Devlin owners is that the boats always gets them back. Can't beat testimonials.

Personally, I think the best all around duck boat that Devlin designed is the Cackler. It is amazingly seaworthy, hunts 2 comfortably, you don't have to mortgage the house to build it/equip it and it's been around a long enough time to be truly proven. With a dodger installed, it's unbeatable in the event you get stuck in 4 footers trying to get back to the ramp.

With that said, re-read Dave's post. Because he's right.

If I could build another boat right now it would be a Cackler. I've always loved the looks and utility of them. Not sure when I'll be able to build again but it's at the top of my list.
